Is a bump in OTE but same base really considered a raise?

Talked about my kickass performance in my positive yearly review and naturally asked for a raise. Got word that a bump in OTE is going to get approved but I really wanted a bump in base. The sales director is calling this a raise.

Is a higher OTE still considered a raise? I'm doing bigger deals now but that also comes with bigger quotas.

No this isn't a raise.  Ask for base raise. Also be sure your quota wasn't increased 🤔

This was my initial gut feeling! I'm gonna keep asking for a bump in base!

Hell no. Hypotheticals can't pay my bills...so if the base didn't go up then you're not getting paid any more than what you were before unless you can attain the additional OTE number.

I would consider it a raise. If they are bumping your commission payout that’s definitely a raise.

What happened to the commission %you get payed out? Is it still the same? Is the OTE just higher because of higher quota? Were you capped before?

I wasn't capped before (though there is a windfall clause...).  Team and business are growing and im doing larger deals.  Theyvdef have the money since they're planning hiring more people, including 3 more AEs.  Commission % changes based on my quota too plus accerlators.

I wouldn't say that was a raise, but it's a way you can earn more money.

Even if you stayed on the say OTE % but had a higher target, you would make more money!

You have to do more to get more, which has always been the case and nothing has changed

Personally I wouldn’t call it a raise. I think I feel the same as you as higher OTE just means I need to close more. I don’t have capped commission (not sure if many in saas would right?) so I can always exceed my OTE regardless of what it is.

Same, I'm not capped and receive accelerators once I'm past quota.  It doesn't feel like much changed...

I'd want a % bump alongside - and a dive into how it is being calculated.

I can't imagine there's too many people that get that high for it to be a problem
