Is all inbound boring?

I'm now in interview 4.5 with a company that claims their ae exclusively get inbound leads, and they're running 8-12 demos a day.

I'm used to full cycle b2b sales, where an inbound lead is basically a gift from the gods, so I'm curious what the job is like on the other side of the spectrum.

Following one of the toughest summers I've had, this sounds very attractive, any downsides to closing all day vs booking your own?

I've been at a ton of places that made this claim, but nowhere that it was actually true.

Would it be boring? Doubtful. If you have the time, you can always prospect on your own.

Discovery, demo, negotiation etc. are always the most interesting and fun for me.

Yeah I'll believe that all inbound day in and day out when I actually see it. My vote is def BS.

Inbound requires a ton of qualification, and in my experience I have a lot more disqualified leads than I did qualified at my last role.

This assertion that “we will literally crush u with so many leads bro” or “our AE’s literally don’t have time to think they have so many calls booked everyday” is usually their justification to pay you a really low commission % and that lead flow at volume is “good” regardless of the quality

I would be very very careful here

100%.

“We are 90% inbound”

Well, if 8/10 of those leads are total shit, does it matter?

Agree 1000%! My last company claimed to be inbound, but of course it was all outbound. So coming to a company that truly is all inbound is magical

My role is mostly inbound. I dont think its boring but it can be frustrating when 90% of "leads" are unqualified. That said it was frustrating having to source all my own leads and 90% of people saying "no". Overall, I'd say its better though.

I don’t find inbound boring. A conversation is a conversation. You’re still qualifying. You’ll still have objections to overcome. The sourcing is just different.

But 8-14 demos a day? Is this an app?

Ya I thought it was pretty excessive too lol and yes it’s an app

Never boring! Always something or the other though.

Mostly the targets are higher. So it won’t feel like a piece of cake.

Closing all day is any day better than booking your own. At the end it all comes down to numbers and not the efforts sadly.

If they are 100% inbound then their lead quality is probably dog shit

I’d be wary of the 8 - 14 demos a day. That seems insane.

Average demo time of 25 minutes mean on the low end you’re looking at 3.33 hours of in demo time per day on the high end you’re looking at 5.83 hours.

That’s not counting prep/research, follow up, salesforce, prospecting, etc.

Seems a bit far fetched but I could just be inexperienced with that type of volume

I am pretty wary of that statistic they shared. I’m used to a handful of demos a day, any time I have over 8 I’m absolutely slammed. Even just following up with 50+ active oops a week sounds like a lot.

That said I’m not sure what all the expectations are yet, good to see I’m not the only one who thought the demo amount was excessive

Defenitely excessive and let’s be real - how much time really goes into 1 between prep follow up and buffer time? Other than that, seems solid

It shouldn't bore you but be prepared that 8-12 demos everyday might overwhelm you and not all will be qualified leads. If the deal size and sales cycle are favourable it will be bonus :)

Closing a sale and getting commish boring??

Like others have said, be VERY skeptical about this.

I’ve been in a couple “demos all day” kind of sales roles and I’ve never been more overworked and underpaid in my career.

Looking back now, all inbound was a dream for me in my first BDR role. Marketing was dead on with their MQL's no pressure. Was a great role .

i never trust a company that says they are 100% inbound.

and even if that is true I am also assuming that over 50% will be junk / not qualified.

But even with that, not having to prospect is a huge win.

the biggest sacrifice is you may not be able to control your calendar as much.

I wish I had worked in a company with inbound leads, most marketing departments I work with focus on the colours of the logos rather than investing in lead generation. Outbound is more satisfying in my opinion though.

It would only be boring if you don’t enjoy selling the solution. 8-12 demos a day? You’ll be busy selling and crushing your goal!

I’ll love a job where I got all inbounds. I doubt it’s as easy as they’re making it out to be. It is still says after all
