Is commercial insurance safe from automation? (Brokers)

I'm really interested in commercial insurance and I know it involves a lot of complex products/ services and $$$$$. Do you guys think this industry is safe for a young person to enter for the long term?

Sales in general isn't going anywhere so build up your skills (like @Beans said) and your rolodex and settle in for a fun ride throughout industries.

Where you start is rarely where you end and as long as you learn a bunch, meet some good people, and make solid cash along the way it's a success.

Even if it isn't, careers aren't permanent - take the skillset you develop to new industries.

The more complex the product, the tougher it is to automate. I don’t see robots replacing salespeople in this lifetime. You’re fine.

The industry in which I work did not exist when I was in college.    Who knows what will be coming in 10-20 years.

At the core, sales skills are sales skills; as others have said, develop those and you should be able to apply them if something really interesting comes along.

You’re kidding, right? There are whole businesses (MGAs and traditional carriers) predicated on using automation to simplify underwriting and binding.

In terms of what is a better way of putting this, I don’t see claims adjusters or insurance sales jobs going away, I could be totally wrong though.

You and I have very similar offers/interestes/thoughts. I would say relationship brokering isnt going anywhere but automation will begin to affect the analytic side of it. Those old guard industries will protect the nest egg as much as they can. Theyve said equity options brokering will be dead in 5 years for 25 years now. I know guys who still make 2-5mm a year doing it. Theres just less volume of people who make 250-600k doing it.
