Is every sales job supposed to feel like a war zone?

The amount of toxic people, politics, fakeness/lies, cultlike-cultures, and just general bullshit that I have to deal with at every sales job I’ve had is seriously mind blowing. It’s so bad that I honestly feel a lot more peaceful when I’m selling and feel like I’m more my real self with my clients than I am with coworkers/management.

Is this how all sales jobs are? Or have I just consistently gotten unlucky? Or is it my fault somehow?

No.  It might feel like the rule rather than an exception but you need to find something that fits.  It's worth the effort.

How many bad jobs like this have you had? If its only been a couple you have probably just gotten unlucky because there definitely are great orgs out there.

If we are talking like 5-6 roles at this point, I hate to say it but it might be time to look in the mirror.

To piggyback on FamilyTruckster - it starts at the top.  Crazy executive management trickles all the way down.   There are some very good company and sales cultures out there.   Finding your place can make a world of difference in how you feel about sales.

Did it start with the uniforms?  Or were the uniforms your way to try and overcome a toxic culture?

Didn't mean to offend, just not a believer in uniforms and everyone needs to look and act the same. Aren't we all trying to differentiate in sales and show why and how we are better than our competition?

I'm not offended. It was OP who had previous postings about uniforms.   I personally agree with you.

Definitely not the norm - sounds like you haven't landed in a good spot. There are far too many like you described out there, but more that aren't, thankfully.

Not your fault. There is a lot of toxic shit out there. Starts at the top.

On the flipside, you do have to have thick skin in sales, period. Not just around customers.

I’ve often said working with the actual clients is the easy part of the job. All the internal shit you deal with...particularly when your client has an issue that needs to be fixed is where you actually earn your paycheck.

Not all, but I feel like it really comes down to company culture and how the org is structured.

It certainly attracts a certain personality type that loves to live in the scenario you've alluded to.

Once you find the right team, product, and territory though it is heaven.

Maybe unlucky, stereotypically it is a snakey industry. But always some diamonds in the rough ay.

I think you have been consistently unlucky (not the right fit for the culture, speed of work, working style, your own research before interviewing).

Onboarding, training, mentoring,  management style, and comp plans are how I evaluate sales jobs. Anybody that works with me doesn't really matter to me since I can't control their actions.  Focus on what directly impacts you.

How many consecutive hours did you spend in the War Room reading and commenting when you were FINALLY accepted? For me it’s been 7 and it’s now 1:20am. Good lord wtf.

Unpopular opinion…but if you’re still on the waitlist for war room you’re probably shitty at sales. How the hell are there 130k people who haven’t figured out a way in…..lol

#1 thing you have learned in the War Room so far? Could be anything from side hustle to a new way of thinking.
