Is it just me or does every company with a sales opening boast a "competitive salary" on their posting regardless of how truly "competitive" it is?

Obviously the amount offered isn't the only factor in determining if the offer is truly competitive, you must consider experience, industry, product blah blah blah. But it's nearly on every single posting and, in my experience, it's rarely even true. I've got 6 years in SaaS sales, competitive to me is 100k+ so if you turn around and offer 50 it takes a lot not to just hang up on you.

Tbh I think it's just one of those buzzwords that all job postings *have* to have or something. Hell, the taco bell on my street lists competitive pay on their "we're hiring" yard sign

Most job postings are just TERRIBLE, primarily because HR writes them.  I hadn't paid much attention to it, but recently reviewed my companies job postings and was like "ugh....gross".

A dude reached out to me talking about a competitive compensation, and the base was 40K and the OTE was 60K. Like bro, my FIRST sales role had a 60K base.

Most salesfolks have extrinsic motivation. Btw,Most of the HRs and recruiter softwares pickup templates for most sections of the JD.

The ones that say competitive salary and don't list a range make it super easy for me to not consider.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
You gotta utilize your network instead of looking through postings.

My mom is known is the HR bitch of the Midwest. She's been doing this for 30+ years and she'll be the first to tell you that she hates those buzzwords, but is always at the mercy of her higher ups. For years, she's advocated for companies to post the salary, but the traditional "old heads" refuse to do it.

It’s all relative. They look at payscale and put in data that affirms what they think is competitive for the level of talent they want.

‘Competitive salary with 210K OTE’ click on it ‘18k base with uncapped OTE’
