Is it ok to challenge a bad customer to a fist fight?

I have spent a few years in sales at this point (SMB, MId-Market, and Enterprise) and I have met some real asshole prospects/customers along the way (also some awesome ones).

I was once running a deal with the CIO and IT team at a mid-market financial services company that seemed to be going well. When we started the POC my SE admitted certain limitations of our solution but proposed a workaround.

The CIO lost their mind, started cussing us out and even started throwing slurs (honest to God).

At the time, we brought in our VP who kindly told the CIO we would be ending any future conversations with the company.

In hindsight, would it have been acceptable to challenge the CIO to a fistfight in a Walmart parking lot halfway between our two offices?

My head says no, my heart says yes.ย  Eitherway, your job probably would have terminated as quickly as that deal.
