Is it okay if I take some afternoons off to go surfing?

I have never missed quota and in fact have broken the company record on quota attainment.

I love surfing and have recently been taking more afternoons off to go. I love it.

As long as I'm hitting my number, is that okay? Obviously I don't tell my manager lol. I probably take anywhere from 1 to 2 afternoons off a week. It also forces me to really grind it out before noon.

If you are hitting the goals you have zero to be worried about. Sometimes I think "getting paid" to do something you love, like surfing, is exactly the kind of mental break employees need to exceed goals when they're actually grinding.

I completely agree! It makes you a lot more grateful to your company too when you are given that flexibility.

Depends on your goal and schedule for the week
If you're super good at quotas and cool with KPIs in line, shouldn't be a problem
Just enjoy and kill it🔥

To be honest, just make sure you keep the surf part private from your coworkers. If you're crushing your numbers, the "secret sauce" should remain secret.

Good on you!

I know! People will get jealous. It's innate in us. "Why is he having so much fun and producing twice as much me? Gosh I hate him"

Totally fine. You're not paid to warm a chair. If you can exceed quota you're a champ.

You know how many deals I've got by going out doing things? If I get a deal while boating, is that okay? Does it still count if I was having fun while working?

What about posting pics to social and meeting others that like surfing that end up buying your product because you were out surfing?

If the company says anything having those sort of deals handy helps. Cause you tell them I closed 6M worth of deals from surfing this year. Should we take those back since that doesn't count as work?

All the best car salesmen used to say that they hang out in the service bay and bullshit with the service guys all day. Guess whos the first guy to hear about a customer that just got told his car is toast?

I think that's 100% okay. In my world, you can basically do whatever you want if you're hitting quota

I wouldn't give a shit if I was your manager. You're probably fine BUT there are some assholes out there. Don't broadcast it though.

As long as you’re putting in real effort and crushing it, do your thing. Would be toxic advice to say keep doing it on the low and hope you don’t get caught because that’s how people get fired.

Management perspective: Honesty is the best policy but we all go into sales for the freedom and flex.

If you’ve got a cool boss that trusts you, maybe negotiate a deal that you can do what you love as long as you keep crushing? Never know. I did that with my peeps for baseball and golf.

I knew a rep out west that wouldn't schedule meetings before 10 am since he surfed every day.  If you are asking for permission you are doing it wrong.  Enjoy the ride.

Klaviyo is doing great stuff. That isn't the market I'm in but I know and respect one of their sales VPs so if you are in that market, I'd get after them--they seem to be doing something really special in that space.
