I would have put him on the spot during that call. Probably would have said something like, Yeah because Iโ€™m going to take your job. And be a heck of a lot better.
But if it really bothers you, talk to him about it. Something like, should I accept those meetings in my LinkedIn messages? Just say the word.

Oftentimes genetic and incurable. Douchebaggery begets douchbaggery. Or the douche bag doesn't fall far from the douche tree.

In other words douche bags usually have always been that way and will likely always be that way.ย

Sounds like you have a turd bomb for a manager. The fact is though, if it was true he likely wouldn't have mentioned it. But if it was enough to make you uncomfortable you would do good to bring it up.

Also sounds like the kind of guy that would try to paint you as overreacting because, "come on dude, I was only joking"ย

Everyone deserves to work where they look forward to Mondays because they enjoy the culture that much.

If I was you I'd start looking

Not to be taken as advice, but during the call I would be like "oh you know well enough that I'm irreplacable, so don't go too hard on those guys".

After the call, if you really took it seriously, send a call invitation and ask them if they really meant what they said by that and that you would prefer any issues with your performance to be handled directly with you first. Listen to their response. Look for opportunities outside of your current workplace.ย

Did he explicitly mentioned it or implied. If you are feeling haunted, speak to him or else ignore and focus on slapping numbers on his face.

Specifically mentioned. He mentioned he's interviewing candidates for a role that's not exactly mine.

Odd, interesting, weird. All of the above. I would address it after the call. You could keep it casual & be like 'hey you were joking right', & that could either put an end to that or open a new can of worms

I'd ask what your relationship with your boss is.

Regardless, pretty inappropriate for a manager to say- team setting or not. I don't like office politics so I probably would've said something after the call to them about how that wasn't cool and you'd appreciate going forward to not be the butt of the joke.

Hmm ... I'd be interested to know what your relationship is like with them?

If their (questionable) humour is like this often with multiple members in the team I'd honestly probably let it slide and internally just think 'ok fool'. However, if it's always you that's made to feel small to make them feel big I'd book a 121, bring it up and depending on their answer, start hashing out what's lying deeper here... from there you can devise your next steps.

So:
1. They use this kind of humor w/other team members- So good call.
2. Regardless, it's not the first time they make me feel small.
