Is texting prospects a good sales strategy?

I know this can be quite a polarizing topic. Speaking as someone who just got a text from a BDR that I never even spoke with about a solution that I already communicated to the AE is not a fit for our current business strategy, they took it upon themselves to text me if I was "still interested"

Now, not only am I turned off by their approach... I don't think I'll ever revisit this solution.

I'm in sales myself so I obviously understand the grind so I wonder if I am being too harsh. Or if other people find this strategy annoying. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

(It's worth noting they messaged my personal cell number and I never had any contact with them prior).

I'd strongly advise against cold texting. However texting is great for existing relationships. I always preface with: "I'm a millennial, do you mind if we text?"

@braintankย haha i love this! Totally agree texting is more acceptable if it's someone you've already built a rapport with

I would sign them up for the most fucked up newsletters and subscriptions ever. Fuck that person.

I only text certain prospects that have expressed a desire to communicate that way, I'll never initiate it.

100% Once that has been established as an acceptable line of communication, fire away. Until then stay away.

I'm a pretty laid back guy so if the text came to me I wouldn't be pissed that they texted me so much as irritated that had they taken 30 seconds to do their job properly they would have seen that there is no way I could "still" be interested as I had made it clear before that there is no fit.

They'd get a daily pic of me in the shower until they changed their number.

...which will never happen.

You should send that lovely image of Harvey instead.ย  That should do it.

Right:ย  ย that Harvey face = number change.

Your image?ย  Particularly in the shower?ย  Probably not going to change the number.ย  ย

What if I photoshopped Harvey's head onto my body in the shower? Or better yet, my head onto Harvey's body.

I usually only text if I'm really deep in the process with them, and usually it's just for schedule coordination and to find out why TF they haven't signed the DocuSign

I donโ€™t because it s not me and my country is quite conservative around it. My Spanish colleagues however have a lot of succes with it.ย

For me, text is great after discovery call.ย  If its a product I'm interested after discovery, I even give the AE my cell phone number just because I'm significantly easier to catch their then in my mountain of 3,549,034 unread emails.ย  ย Prospecting, I'm not a fan.ย
