Is the sales you and real you the same person?

The title says it. I was thinking about this today and about how when I'm on sales calls and just speaking in general, my whole personality changes.

I'm usually laid back, don't like talking, asking questions, and am generally pretty reserved. Once I'm on a call or meeting a client in person, I'm all ears and pretty much become a whole different person from who I actually am. Are you all generally outgoing, personable, and extroverted people in real life, or only in your sales world?

Does your personality change in the Sales environment?

I'm the same person, in that I'm not false or dishonest or anything when I'm working.

But in my real life, I'm a lot, LOT, snarkier.  Most of that is completely inappropriate on a sales call.

I am kinda of that personality. I am a loner, introvert, not much talkative types in my real life but when it comes to hopping on calls/meeting etc. with prospects I find myself a different person 🙂

I don't swear on my calls but otherwise I'm the same. It works out wonderfully.

You mean you only swear on calls right? Add a little edge to the conversation

I don't until the prospect starts. Depending on the word I know how intense I can get. They drop an F-bomb and it's gloves off.

That's true, I will match them if they start swearing, but it's very rare in my market that they swear.

I used to sell to lawyers. Not a lot that I miss about that, but that is one of them. Those guys, especially the old ones, like to go off. Almost turns into a competition

I'm pretty similar, maybe turn aspects up or down depending on audience.

Not that different on and off calls. Maybe a little more "energy" on client calls but I'm not like a different person.

I like to think that I'm the same. I try to be as good of a listener in both my professional and personal lives. Love striking up conversations with strangers. Really the reason I've stayed in sales, I like talking to people and learning what makes them tick, what motivates them.

I try to be as much a homie on sales calls as in real life, but I'm definitely way more of a clown out in the world, let's be real

I’m more opinionated in my personal life and might say profane / outrageous things.
Professionally I would use a more thoughtful tone and be more mindful of how people receive me but I am by and large the same person. Just a little cleaner around the edges.

Conscious/unconscious I’m roughly the same.  Bit more reserved with new customers.

When it comes to sales, the best advice I can give is to be yourself.  Of course, if you're an asshole, then be somebody else.

Im pretty much the same. I speak to my prospects pretty casually (minus the thrown in tech terms/buzz words). I do swear a ton conversationally and  maybe a little too much on my sales calls but it hasn't bit me in the ass yet.

I've tried being someone else, i don't sell. And that was like my first lesson in sales, be yourself.

I'd say we're almost the same person, but my patience for bullshit is definitely higher when dealing with a customer.

A good salesperson is always selling and treat everyone like a customer, this includes coworkers and spouses.

Something I've learned this past few years. Makes life easier, but we all have our limits.

I'd say I'm different in the initial discovery/prospecting calls. A little more formal.

By the time I sign them though, I'm talking to my client like they're my best mate.
