Agreed. Standard LI fare and something to be proud of, but also don't rub salt in the wound.

LinkedIn was made for two things:

1) shameless harassment of your prospects
2) trite, self-aggrandizing posts about how good u are at ur job

Fuck it. You survived and got promoted, tell the world. Deals donโ€™t die because the company is struggling. Still gotta win business.

They don't know they got promoted to do the job of 4 people now. Let them think they won.

As someone in that position (not with a big name), not something I would think about that often. Maybe timing isn't perfect however I imagine it would be heard through the grapevine either way

No issue with it if the post was the generic LinkedIn I got promoted

If you got promoted, you have the right to tell people you were promoted. Timing may be shitty but the person isnโ€™t in the wrong here, IMO.

I do not see this as tone deaf at all. For the people on the rif itโ€™s a bit too early but all good in my book.
lol I know someone at okta too! Last year one deal they made over 400k. I looked at their postings for positions and my area and it seemed like every 2-3 months the position was open again.

Can you imagine posting your promotion only to have layoff news hit the wire a little later?

I think it's fine, might have been different teams etc. impacted. Could have probably waited a few weeks before announcing it on LinkedIn though

I think promotions are usually a smart thing to broadcast, but this is definitely unfortunate timing.
