Is there such thing?

is there such thing as a chill AE role? i'm talking logging 8 hr days, structure yet autonomy, freedom yet excitement with a sprinkle of minimal pressure from leadership.
pls don't point me to AM or CS. genuinely curious.

I'm an enterprise AE at a series D info sec company. My days typically aren't too hectic (1-2 zooms with existing customers, 1-2 meetings with current PoVs, maybe a sync w/ my SDR or boss, some light prospecting). I have enough experience where my boss isn't pestering me constantly -- granted there is always pressure to perform, but the management style is more "let's collaborate and be creative" than metric driven.

Sounds like a sweet gig, i like the sound of that. I’m more of a rookie AE and selling in smb at a series E.. maybe im naive but my guess is more tenured folks w experience get to enjoy the kind of days and boss like you describe.

Yeah, join a big company with a product with long sales cycles. Hours are typically a lot better

Top end can be a bit limited, though. I worked for a few of these, and rock stars are running out of gas at $250k/year.

I've had a lot of prospects in the legal weed world. They never get anything done, but they all seem pretty relaxed.

Yea. Last two jobs I’ve had including current. Just need to find the right culture / management that have realistic expectations.

You’ll find that sort of culture for complex SaaS with a long sales cycle… since it takes a long time to close deals there tends to be less pressure for immediate results and more focus on yearly quotas…

As an example, we’re expected to set 2-4 meetings a month and close 2M a year. They don’t care if meetings are set by me, BDR, partners, or come inbound. They just want new meetings added to pipeline monthly. No one looks at call or email metrics.

If we’re doing that fairly consistently we are left alone.
