is this type of thing done?

hey savages. i'm burnt out at my current shop and am coming to the final stages of finding a new spot to land.

now it's about my exit... i banked 2 weeks of PTO and have a trip scheduled. i'm tossing all things work out the window during those 2 weeks - so not starting a new role until after i get back.

in terms of 'professional reputation' etc; should i quit my current spot before i leave, the day i get back, or a week after???

Quit when you get back. This was your time away from the office to do some soul searching and you found that your soul left you as soon as you started that job and you found it at the new one.

idk. employment is at-will. I understand that there needs to be a level of professionalism, but where is that when they fire someone at a moments notice. just my thoughts...endrant

If they can fire you at-will, you can quit at-will, you don't owe them anything for burning you out. Let you hair down and take that vacay on company pay

Stay as long as you can. I would take my vacation first. You aren't guaranteed to be paid for the days you didn't take once you quit.

Definitely give notice when you get back. That's what I did this spring - wedding/honeymoon, then notice. Boom

I agree^ with @antiASKHOLE but also I think it depends on your current place, your manager, and the relationships there.

I agree, except I think that's more about how the departure is messaged, rather than the timing of it.

and as far as ‘good’ messaging goes, just speaking in “I statements” and expressing gratitude for their investment into me?

or do i give it to ‘em straight

DUDE the day you get back for sure.

you risk them doing the whole "last day last pay" shit and just letting your go immediately.

always protect yourself.
