ISV Sales Manager as next move?

Whats your experience working as an ISV Sales Manager / Channel Partner Sales Executive roles, where you're working closely with partners to enable them and sell through them?

What type of person would excel in this role, and what type of person would dislike it?

I'm curious about how lucrative these types of opportunities can be.

I'm not sure, but as a partner that's had Channel Partner reps assigned to us, it always seemed like an easy gig to me. Just get to bring food/giveaways/spiffs to the office to get the sales team to like your product (ok, that's over-simplified, but kind of what it felt like)

From companies I’ve worked at the people in ISV and Channel are the most clueless of the most helpless wastes of space. Everybody sees it and tries to avoid them. But if you’re in that crowd, oh glory. You protect each other, make up metrics on the fly, changing mid-term to ensure ‘success’. Promotions are given out like candy. String a whole sentence together in front of a VP.. boom you’re now a VP too. Hooray! Leadership say “we need ISV and channel to give us scale” so we all play nice in public.. but everybody knows… This is my experience over the last 20 years. Maybe I’ve been unlucky, but on my experience I’d never hire someone from an ISV or Channel team for proper sales.
