Are you under the impression that there are IT manufacturers in here, or am I dumb and missing something?

I was thinking the same, they might be some, but definitely the minority.Β

It’s just vernacular. In IT sales, a lot of the big companies that make products sell through the channel. The companies that make the products are called manufacturers. I am a sales rep for one of those companies. My job is to talk to buyers as well as channel partners, and I carry quota. When I say β€œIT Manufacturers,” I promise we are blue blooded sales reps that are pitching our balls/lips off all day every day.

I’d NEVER. I’m VAR all the way, tbh- I like being agnostic, even if it’s just to a dual product line extent.

I have been told multiple times id be a good var rep. I just don’t want to start at the bottom. I also worry var world is shrinking with companies like shi and cdw in the mix. What do you think about that?

I agree - being with the company who makes the product (manufacturer) is better than being on the var end. (or even worse in my opinion, distribution which is even more of a middle man)

FEELINGS- Your commission is annual (ARR) but the customer paid monthly (MRR) and if there is a churn in the next few months, the company will deduct by increasing your quota and taking the equivalent amount $$ from your quota in the next month.
