I'm a big fan of a LinkedIn connection req. + a note to prod, then I might give them a call later in the day.ย 

Alternately, I've had success with sending an email giving them a heads up that I'll be giving them a call to catch up at X time - when they're half expecting it, I usually get better reactions.
