Job Opportunity

Hey folks,

So... I have an interview for a huge company to move as a Sales Associate for the SMB market which I would be taking a marginal cut in pay for but there is better benefits.

I work at a smaller company about 100 staff as a Senior Account Executive. Majority of our business is done with SMBs so I am not sure there is a huuuge difference in who I will be selling to just a different title because theres better growth opportunity at the new company.

If any one has any advise to weigh in on that'd be great. I am one of our top performers in this company and a move to a huge company is something I've always wanted to I could prove myself and work somewhere with growth opportunity for my career.

Now question time, has anyone any info to share on a sales associate role. What is it like at a large company? I would be doing full cycle in the new job whereas I did from the qualified lead to sale in my current so not a whole pile different in that such but just any red flags you see on a move like this? I feel like I would be taking a step back initially to move forward to where there are many more open doors than I currently have.. if that makes sense.

Sounds like a lateral move from how you've framed it. What are the benefits and potential for promotion at the new company relative to the old one?ย

Ya its more of a lateral move but my company is small right now. This company I have an interview with is huge so I'm assuming growth opportunities are much larger than in my existing role as there is no room for growth really other than taking my managers sales manager role. I just feel to get in a multinational you would likely need a move sideways or backwards to get your foot in the door. I suppose for context I am 25 with 3 years full sales cycle and closing experience so a step backwards isnt the end of the world. thoughts?

Yeah in that case definitely go for it. Just keep in mind that a large company doesn't guarantee a strong promotion path. Do your due diligence around promotion path, percentage of reps promoted a year, what is required for promotion etc

Unless your move is A) getting you to a position where growing within the company are almost a given, where it's easier to carve out your path sort of speak SDR to Snr SDR or move to an AE position. Or B) you're gaining a shit-ton more money.
Otherwise in my humble option, I'm not the biggest fan of lateral moves, but hey, some people are a better fit in other company's culture so hey, it really is your call buddy.
Whatever you do, crush it!

It's point A i really hope this position would give me. I am a SAE in my current company but I feel if I want my foot in the door at a huge company I would prob need to step back or sideways to work upwards and prove myself. Thanks for the advise, I appreciate it!

A large company has its perks but it has its cons: some cons are that you can't really create any new processes, things are usually set up as they want it and we just have to follow. Lots of beaurocracy as well. Besides that, many perks, security , the works! Congrats!

If you can find one, Iโ€™d probably prioritise a move equating to a promotion with a fast-growing, well backed startup with sound fundamentals instead of this lateral move to a big company. Will likely entail better growth and progression opps for you and the company should hopefully be on a good trajectory. Good luck.

What did they tell you the OTE would be?

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
The sales associate title here is confusing as that would normally indicate a SDR type role. How long have you been selling? What are the OTE differences?
