Job Search : Outbound vs Inbound techniques? Your experience

heya, been trying lot of outbound techniques to my job search, built a pipeline , reached network ,tailored resume , did some strategy paper for the hiring manager ,  landed first HR interview and then got rejections , still created some tailored content to get access to hiring manager on LinkedIn.

am I barking at wrong trees? or is there a silver lining where I might be sounding too desperate ?

ask me questions , give me feedback if targetted outbound works? is there way to create inbound  techniques for job search for commercial roles ?

when you say inbound techniques, do you mean having recruiters reach out to you?

In my experience, nothing a recruiter has come to me with has ever gone anywhere.

I like the approach of reaching out proactively to companies to get hired.

its exactly the same as sales.

I would say to keep it simple. find who the director of sales is and reach out with a reason for why you want to work for them and that you would like to talk connect.

By inbound I mean hiring managers reach me :) - I see lot of other folks creating content , writing medium or linked articles (or becoming active on social ) to establish their connections and sneak in “I am open to work reach me …”. I have family friend who got offers although in product mgmt because he did tear-down of the product of the hiring company to get attention.

Does same inbound works for sales ?

hmm. im sure it does to a certain extent. Im not sure what the sales equivalent of doing a product teardown would be though.

I have landed my last few roles because of the people I knew and the people I was able to meet. So there is value in building your "brand" but for me it has paid off more by networking within the industry I am in and less onLinkedIn.

But it could work for sure.

If I'm understanding outbound correctly here, you need to fully understand the kind of role/company you want, then narrow down a target list of companies and approach it like a sale.

Identify key contacts, make connections, and find an in.

Inbound "job searching" almost always results in garbage. There's a reason these companies are proactively reaching out to people, it's because nobody is reaching out to them.

It's always a numbers game. Keep at it! Targeted outbound absolutely works
