Thank you for this thread mate! If you have the time and energy answering:

- Do you have any experiences between applying directly vs reaching out to the hiring manager and if it helps/overkills?
- Do you edit your CV particularly for every position - what do you think about that level of mimicking?
- Do you actively talk to people who used to work in the company you're talking to and figure out what their experiences were like?
- How do you tackle the question of "what are your strengths and weakness*"

1) I always apply directly but also reach out to the hiring manager and team leads. Also if it takes a while for the hiring manager to get back to you then in the meantime I reach out to people in the role to get a referral.

2) Yes I do edit my CV every time but very minor tweaks like I have a summary at the top section and I change that according to the job description.

3) Yes, definitely. Those people are great resources to take a look at the real picture of the company

4) I would say be honest but stay away from cliches. Think about your personal life and work life. People think it is 2 separate things but I think the opposite. I mention my love for sharing and being able to ask for feedback as a strength and not being able to focus on one thing at a time as weakness for example. But

How are you approaching the question โ€œWhy are you looking for change ?โ€ Do you position the struggles of current role or fit to future role ?

I start off talking about the good things at the current role and the company for maybe 30 seconds and then I most of the time mention that the company is not transparent and not investing into employee enablement which is the truth and my case but I suggested the same route for couple people and it worked for them really as well.

Another question if it may help others too!

I am wondering if you have got into situation where the Recruiter is truely finding hard to afford you and telling you about โ€œcompa ratioโ€ and how i am not fitting the bill. How would you handle or suggest ?

I am interviewing for BDR-AE roles at the moment.

Most comp. in Europe is below market pay and my current company pays average. With that being said, if they do not meet my expectations: before I say anything I weigh the pros and cons and is it worth negotiating first because sometimes taking a cut and moving to a better company is better than getting a raise.

Otherwise, before they ask me about my expectations I have a chat with a few people at the role in my target company and ask about the compens and depending on that I mention something higher.

Lets say I will interview with Okta and spoke to an AE and mentioned he makes 60k base so I will tell the recruiter 70 and they will bring down. If they say 55 then I will mention I spoke to a few people and I think my experience aligns with theirs really well and on top of it I have experience in x y z so I would rather not go below 65.

So knowledge is power in a way. Both about the company and your strengths.

What is your networking process? I have been told this is key especially linkden messaging and emails to HM. The thing is no one is messaging me back on linkden.

1) Cold email
2) If you receive a reply then keep chatting through there
3) In the mean time send a Linked In connect if you do not get a response
4) Once connected and still no reply then message them on Linked In
5) If no reply to email, no reply to connection request then go one up to director, etc.

Also in the mean time connect to reps that will be in your team through Linked In only.

After going thru it, do you think we have less pull and leverage in this market? I.e for the best roles, great OTEs, etc

I can't say much about US market but in EU it all comes down to advantages you have. Language, visa but in US I'd say there are still many opportunities yet they do not want to pay like they used to.

Before this market and economical shit, job hopping would bring more money but now, it might be a step back even.

What would you recommend doing to break into tech sales? The main hurdle is seemingly lack of software sales experience
