Jobs definitively worse than sales

Hello to all,

saw a topic of discussion saying that sales is the worst role so here is a list of roles worse than sales. Add your thoughts/additional roles in the comments below.

  • Executive assistant - you are someoneโ€™s bitch to run errands and manage a calendar you think your CEO is bad and maybe are exposed to him/her once every few weeks, imagine dealing with them 24/7 365 often working weekends to deal with their BS.
  • Wastewater treatment plant operator - visited one in college when I thought I wanted to be a civil engineer and the smells that came out of that place still sting my nose just typing this
  • Sanitation - the hours are awful and injury is common
  • Construction laborer - Injuries and working outdoors in winter. Say less
  • customer success/Support - you are the frontlines for all customer problems and will hear about it.

As a 1st gen Mexican American. Working in the agricultural fields. Picking lettuce is back breaking work at speeds that will give you whiplash.

Its thankless work, that I only tried one season when I was in high school, and Iโ€™m extremely grateful I got the opportunity to do something else to earn a living.

For developing an amazing tough skin, Iโ€™d agree, but for actual sales?

I did credit collection in college. You definitely have to โ€œsellโ€ them on the value of paying their already delinquent bill instead of buying food or paying a different bill.

Agreed. It definitely makes you less scared of the phone and dealing with adversity. The challenge when transitioning to sales from collections (for me anyway) was the mindset shift from "they owe me money" to "they don't owe me shit". Took me longer than I'd like to admit to get my head around that one.

I worked in construction with my dad when I was a student. Man that sucked. Also being a mailman sucked.

Depends on which part of HR. TA folks are usually the first to be laid off.

Sure, this is fair. I know recruiters are considered HR however I think of HR as someone that makes sure the company is not violating any laws in dealing with employees

Yeah, project management may take the cake. Everything is going wrong all the time and itโ€™s always your fault.

When I was in recruiting years ago someone applied for an IT job and their most recent position was "Subway Sandwich Artist" I have no problem with someone applying but the way they worded it gave me a chuckle for the day.

Dishwasher for catering company.

50 metal sheets with an inch thick pile of bacon grease that dried 4 hours earlier. It took hours to scrape it off and the smell never goes away.

Damn, honestly youโ€™re better off reheating the plate then washing to clear it off. But yeah terrible.

*****Journalist**** My house mate is one. As I sit here on a sales kick off webinar he is furiously clicking and typing and works about 12 hours a day . He also earns my base which is shocking considering how good he is and busy he is. Desperate stuff.

Junior year in H.S. worked for forestry service cutting fire breaks, erosion control, shoring up creeksides. near redding. Ca in 105ยฐ avg. Temp daily heat for $3.10/hr. MIn wage. With a pickaxe. Parent's said if cant find a local job? The Youth conservation corps will do you good. My take: 2 trips to dr. 2 have nose cortorized. Due to high altitude. And dry heat. Though overall great experience... however i couldn't imagine being a firefighter in that heat & terrain trying to put out forrest fires. That's a tough job.

I would say any job that doesnโ€™t allow you to make $100K a year from home, without an advance degree, while creating your own schedule is objectively worse than sales.
