Jumping to a current customer company?

I've been working with this customer who's also in Sales tech, compete with zoominfo. Solid product and great VP Sales. Some SDR's and AE's I know there are good too.

How normal is it to interview with a customer for a job? I know their top rep who's making 3 times as much as I'm making now in commish. Their President club winner gets to go to Hawaii they seem to be a great team and the chance of my base getting a solid bump is very high (they recently raised their series A and are in the middle of raising a Series B now).

Should I give it a shot?

PS - I'm very happy with everything in my current company. Just the bump in pay and commish is what's attracting me now to look at this option. Any advise?

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, but you may want to read the contract that your customer signed with your company. My previous employer had a clause in their customer contracts that said they weren't allowed to recruit employees of our company. Turns into a bit of a grey area if you are the one reaching out to them.

I would talk to your buddy and ask him for an intro to the hiring manager to pick their brain a bit.

I’ve been looking at it and the clause you talk about exists, yes. I know the hiring manager too, but the fact is he knows my CEO well and it’s just gonna get a little messy. I don’t want to burn bridges with my current CEO either.

If it is a better opportunity (which you made it seem like it is), then you aren’t burning a bridge if your CEO is respectful. They can’t get mad if their employees leave for things that they can’t provide.

I encourage my reps to take interviews with other companies they are interested in so that they understand their market value. If there is another company with a better position that either pays more, or gives them a better ability to learn, then it’s better for them to take it. I would hope the CEO of your current company sees it the same way

If you don't mind me asking, who is the company you are looking at?  I know quite a bit about this space, I'd be curious who you are looking at before I comment.

Generally, people spend 1/3 of their weekdays working, 1/3 sleeping, and 1/3 everything else. Money is a consequence of effort and there are many ways to generate it. If you don't feel satisfied in how you're spending a 1/3 of your time - you owe it to yourself to keep searching for what you believe in.

The biggest sales year of my life, I was basically servicing inbounds due to my relationships, was receiving mid five-figure equity grants, and barely had to work 30 hours a week.
