Ayo. It's me your boy.
Honestly leadership I thought I'd be a natural for... Except turns out it's more work than "adult babysitting".

Read some leadership books, podcasts etc.ย

The hardest part was separating myself from the social aspect. The boss doesn't drink with the boys(team/people etc). No dinners, no outside of work events, nadda. The respect I gain for buying the first round (bring me a receipt for the first pitcher with a 25% tip for the sorry soul who is serving you.) Is measurable.ย

Remove yourself from drama. Don't take sides, even if there is a clear side. Some of the best performers are the underdogs who got a good talking to.

Praise in public. Shame in private.ย

It's actually work. People don't know or think it's easy until you're in those shoes.ย

My go to line for people who can't make it past probation...
"Probation is a time to show your employer(me) your best work, your hustle, I don't expect perfection, I don't expect no mistakes, but if this is the best you had to offer, we are not going to continue your employment here." This said 1 month in or 2 months in a 6 month probate weeds out the fakers. The people that don't want to be there will quit or find other work. The others who were wavering will respect you for noticing the slack.

When we get DMs hit me up. I'd love to chat more.

Don't ever forget where you came from but in the same don't be a douche about showing off your awards and stories... you got to be relatable but also respected.

Be a fucking team player and got to bat for your team when you have to. A corporate soldier is the last thing people want to work for.ย

"Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence."
Great leaders donโ€™t set out to be a leader. They set out to make a difference. Itโ€™s never about the role โ€“ Itโ€™s always about the goal.

Lastly - congrats mate. I hope this new chapter in your life is fucking terrific!

I haven't but I've worked for someone who got promoted to become a manager because they were #1 on the team... they were a nightmare.

As a rep I'd say don't be a tool. The best managers listen more than talk. They may have been good reps but that doesn't necessarily make someone a good leader if they don't listen.ย

Just got promoted to team lead and my manager is asking me to motivate the team to hit their KPI's. Any tips on this since no one likes the KPI chat, including me.
