Laid off and Confused

Hello all,

I got laid off from my AE role by a big conglomerate last month. I'm 26 years old, two successful years as an AE and two as an SDR from very reputable companies. I apply to 40 SaaS jobs a day and I get nothing. My resume is impressive and yet I cannot find anything. I don't know what to do. I have faith in myself yet I cannot find anything that works for me. Looking for advice and help more than I am job description and links (but those are cool too).

Thanks,

Brent

Sorry to hear this, hope you are able to take of your mental health during this as it can be stressful as help. Make sure to be doing something you enjoy everyday vs staring at the inbox until a recruiter matches with you.

What types of roles are you looking for?

If you shoot me a dm of your linkedin and I can send it to recruiters who have reached out to me this week. Our backgrounds are similar so maybe that will help.

Also, since you killed it in past roles, reach out to your past co-workers and leadership. Since they know how good of a AE you are maybe they can be a huge help

Sorry, these times are rough. Not just preaching. Your situation could just as easily have been me. And it was not so long ago. The one thing I would tell you is 40 a day is what everyone is doing. Shotgun shooting resumes just doesn't yield. A remote workforce makes your competition for work national.

Target your "wheelhouse" opportunities. Reach out directly. Include cover letters always and photos where they ask for them. Call when you can. Treat job postings like assigned targets.

Keep fighting. You'll land.

Right now is really tough to be applying blind. You need an in, or an internal reference to really get things moving. It’s really tough out that.

Take a look around these forums, and you'll see that you're definitely not alone. This is a time when you're going to have to apply your prospecting and follow up skills on your own behalf to get the attention of hiring managers.

Sorry to hear that, you have great comment from Kosta already. Your resume is not getting picked up or you aren’t able to crack interviews?

Many of your competitors for the jobs you’re applying to have 2-4x the experience you do. That’s probably a big barrier for you. So you need to be going the extra mile on the jobs you really want.

Sorry for that of course ,I believe you need to expand your network a bit and see if you could a recommendation from any of your old co-workers for the same or different companies they have been worked for before already!

Hey Brent, I'm really sorry to hear this.

As someone who was laid off two weeks before Christmas, I can tell you there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Just gonna take a bit longer in this market, but with your experience you'll be golden.

Things are confusing right now. I think you will fine tons of opportunities to apply. The hiring process is kind of weird too, so keep resilient and don’t take things personal, just prepare yourself to the best of your knowledge…
