Last Few Days at my Job, How do I leave it?

Hey y'all i'm in the home stretch of time with my current company. I'm leaving for a few reasons but overall enjoyed my time here. I'm already going through the gambit of talking with my boss, VP of Sale & next CEO about why I'm leaving and convincing me to stay.

My question is how should I delicately tell them why I'm leaving? Should I ask for Li recs? How/when should I tell my teammates and coworkers that I'm leaving?

I'm trying to leave on good terms but want to make sure I don't burn bridges.

I would start by explaining the reasons you are leaving, if it's something the company can work on they will appreciate it, if it's something personal, they will know it's nothing on their end which is always nice to hear.

With your coworkers, get them all together in a bar, have fun and give them all a good hug and pat on the back, it will make a swift transition.

I'd second this - if they here it is more "personal" they'd be reassured they didn't technically do anything wrong. Of course if they did, they need to know. Given they'll be asking you to stay, they know they're losing an asset. If you truly did enjoy it, like your co workers etc, then I am sure you don't wish ill on them and want them to not lose future assets so feedback is critical!

Personally, I wouldn't tell them why you are leaving, as there doesn't seem to be much benefit. They MIGHT make changes based on your notes, but it wont affect you either way. There also is the possibility that they could label you as a complainer/lazy/bad employee.

Just say its for personal reasons and that you greatly appreciated the opportunity to work for an awesome company that helped grow your career.

100% ask for LI connections/recommendations and be friendly with everyone. You never know if/when your paths may cross again with these people.

I'd just say it's time to move on and you've made up your mind if they ask you to stay. Most leaders know it's too late when you've gotten as far down the path as you have.

Ya that's pretty much how it went. They asked why I hadn't come to them previously which I thought was a dumb question. I've seen reps be let go in the past for expressing interest in other jobs.

Yeah, that's a bit of a joke. And from experience, being the person that comes to leadership just gets you labeled negative. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Generally speaking I'd keep it positive and tell them you are doing what's best for your family. They can't fault you for that.

Go around talking to everybody and exchanging private phone numbers. Save everything you need for a brag sheet, prove of promotions etc to your personal drive.

You'll have a chance to give your opinions during an exit interview. I'd let your bosses know that you enjoyed the time here and that it isn't personal, just leaving for a better opportunity. Nothing wrong with asking for LI recs. In terms of your team, just tell em that it's your last day, maybe have a beer or some lunch and leave your contact info with them in case you want to connect again

Never burn bridges, you have no idea how or when you might need these people in the future. Leave on a high note if possible and they’ll remember you as a champ and somebody worth keeping an eye on.
