Layoffs suck

Man, this sucks to write but my company had to announce layoffs today. This is the 2nd time I’ve seen this in 2 years and I’m safe and all but there’s friendships I’ve made and had to see some good people get told it’s their last day. I’m also privy to some other companies I know that are planning layoffs after the July 4th holiday when Q2 ends. Not sure where the bottom is on this but hope you savages stay well out there keep grinding.

Glad you made it. Layoffs do suck. I was at a company which did layoffs every year in October. I didn’t realize it till my second year there. Made it to the 3rd year and got out of there. Everyone was always on edge during that entire month.

Hate saying this, but it's healthy for the long run.

With good talent being available in the market, great companies won't lose the chance to pounce on 'em real quick and balance the supply n demand. Big Eats Small.

P.S. : Nothing against your company or the ones laid off though @Justatitle

Yeah, this is rather true. I hate big orgs though. Was at one and felt like I was on an assembly line.

I agree with your point here @Justatitle but to your point I think if you are a real mover and shaker in a smaller to medium company and someone who consistently performs strongly you shouldn't be concerned.  Agree it sucks for those around you and ultimately it can mean less friends in the company (it's happened twice in my last company, lost colleagues who i was close friends with on a couple of occasions during layoffs) but ultimately at sits with them if they werent getting the numbers needed.

I dont like the big eats small mentality and I actually times of adversity and economic hardship, smaller companies can thrive with a very lean time and gain market share where big incumbent companies flounder with the shit show.  As long as its run well.

Shit, sorry to hear. That really does suck. Keep yourself on the grindstone and stay in the top 25% if you can.

They went deep on the cut and won’t be making any further cuts. That said I am but they really can’t get rid of anyone else.

No, this was one deep cut to extend runway and truly cut some dead weight. Still sucks though

I’ve seen the aftermath of 2000, and lived right through 2008 — and unfortunately the reality is what goes up must eventually come down.  Now is the time our processes and good habits shine through — keep grinding, this too shall pass.

Yeah I mean nobody knows what will happen but the market always bounces back it’s just a matter of time.
