Echoing a bit of @CuriousFoxย here: Two ways to think about it.

1) You are being unfairly burdened by a manager who clearly doesn't what to do their job. Push back and tell them you have your clear duties and that's what you're paid to do.
2) Take the training opportunity, apply for the next internal management hiring round, and become that persons peer.

A smarter way would be the second one. Thank you!

Potential unpopular opinion here, but at one point I was an individual contributor who HATED my manager because I felt like they were pushing BS onto me that was truly their job... well, then I became a manager in that organization and realized that was actually what they were supposed to be doing. So, without knowing exactly what they are delegating, I would consider that as an option. If it is just them being lazy, then I echo the sentiments already stated and take it as a learning opp and then use it when you interview for a promotion!

I really appreciate your opinion. I guess you have to check all angles. Then again, when an employee feels like their manager is pushing BS towards them, maybe some clarifications are needed.

Thanks!

Iโ€™d show him that itโ€™s unproductive to do everything he is giving you whilst also doing your own day to day work Or, keep asking him questions and for help on what he wants you to do so he eventually does it haha

Sounds like delegation of tasks. ย Take the initiative to work with your manager and build something together. ย If they get promoted, you get promoted.

Unless they are a douche. ย Then f them.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Deprioritize these tasks and tell him so. "Hey, I've got this and that to get through so I'll get to this next week."

All the cats come out of the bag eventually. Document all your work and when the lane opens up, take your shot.ย

they cant hide from delegation forever, when they get asked a question and need to run to you for the answer, all will be well in the world and they will know your manager sucks

Don't risk your job but don't work for free. Don't do the tasks and focus on sales and let him/her eat shit when they aren't completed.

Is it actually stuff that should fall to the manager or is it stuff that should be delegated? If itโ€™s clear that he should own it, let him know it conflicts with your call time or meetings etc.ย

Iโ€™m a little interested in the tasks. Are they strategic at all? Is he potentially exposing you to more responsibility for your benefit? I obviously donโ€™t have any insight other than your message, so this is me playing devils advocate a bit.ย

The tasks are strategic, mainly around reporting to mngmt - So it is indeed to my own benefit as long as he mentioning my name to them as a contributor).ย

You're definitely adding a good perspective!ย

Ask to present them soon. She if heโ€™ll let you. Say something like โ€œIโ€™ve taken an interest in these reports/data/tasks and would like to see how you present them and if possible could I present a portion?โ€ย

Itโ€™ll get you FaceTime and show that you want to move up the ladder.ย
