"Lead Gen Companies"

Has your company blown a fucking bag on outsourced LeAd GeN companies?

Cause mine has... and it's been a cluster fuck. Meaning, we marketing paid 100k to Madison Logic to find us "BANT qualified" MQLs. $220 per lead... I was sus from the beginning...

They've sent us thus far about 150+ "MQLs" and not a single one has converted to a sale.

Apparently, Madison Logic creates landing pages and these leads have to download our content, and then the Madison logic rep will call the lead and vet it out... then they send it to us as a MQL.

But as you might've guessed. They're all bullshit and when I get these "leads" on the phone. They tell me they've never had any interaction with my company and have no idea what I'm talking about. Hilarious right? Yeah so Im telling marketing to get a refund and cancel that shit.

Has your company outsourced lead gen for enterprise B2B sales? If so, what's your experience? Any recommendations? PLEASE SHARE IF YOU VOTE YES. otherwise you're full of shit if you vote yes and don't share.

We've also used Sales Pond - also a total fail.

Yikes, cant say Im surprised to hear this though. Ive never used a company like this but in my last role we did outsource a LinkedIn lead gen company to run outreach for us there and it it was fucking trash.

They were telling us they were having all these convos with our target prospects but when we would log in and check there was literally nothing there. Fraudulent

I worked at 2 lead generation companies.  One of them was excellent, the other was appallingly bad.

$220 per lead is very low for an actual BANT qualified lead.  Typically the lead generation company should actually schedule a sales meeting for you and not just send you the contact details.   I had clients who were very happy paying between $500 and $ 8,000 per lead depending on the difficulty.

The better lead generation company I worked for had a lead guarantee.  We would determine the lead criteria you were interested in paying for in advance and lead could be rejected if they were found to not meet that criteria.

It doesn’t work. Most companies are too niche and the ones that are broad are obvious leads you could find with simple research.

Voted Yes:

I have worked with outsourced lead-gen that was hugely successful, and some that was a total waste of money.

The successful ones were generally small shops with highly experienced ex-sales people or ex-consultants with big networks. They would leverage those networks for introductions and were very targeted in their approach.

In this example, we used them at an early-stage startup to help us get audiences with F500 companies, knowing that even 1 deal with these companies would be a huge win.

These folks took the time to get deep in our solutions and actually helped us crystallize our messaging, because they wouldn't execute on shit messaging. You're talking about something in the neighborhood of $1000 - $5000 / Lead on cost.

On the flip side... I've worked with several call farms that basically returned zero leads after $ Millions of investment - Despite promises of $250 - $500 / lead.

At the $500 / lead level, just hire up on BDR's and build a talent pipeline in your organization. It's going to work out much better for you.

If you're even remotely niche it's likely not going to work out. Also tend to be better for more transactional sales cycles.

Haven’t had success with this. Clicked yes on the mobile app by accident and can’t change it.

I'm thinking of getting one of these services for my company therfore I voted yes (positive-expectation) because I head straight to the poll before reading your post and I was wondering what the percentage are :)

I get LIT UP by people from all around the world trying to sell me this. Never went with it as I have 0 faith.

Seems that viewpoint is justified, based on your experience.

SUCKS though, and hope you can get some/all of that money back because it sounds like a massive waste.

Thanks for naming the company, haven't come across them and will ensure I never will.

I just don't understand the logic of "we can do it better than your own reps". I was talking to the marketing manager in charge of the program.. and it just sounds like they're outsourcing this work to indian call centers. I say that because the Madison Logic rep said something like "oh yeah my partner in India"... so I'm just like wtf.

I hear ya… We’ve tried this so many times and it’s failed. yet after we re-budget for the next year, people think it’s a good idea to revisit and it never is 🙃

We've tried one in the Philippines and Ukraine. Neither were "warm" or even the least bit qualified.

I instead went to sales nav, put on some house music and prospected for an hour or so a day to get my leads. I wish I had success with them, but just isn't the case.

Yeah I’ve never had luck with lead gen companies and in the end they always have excuses on why they couldn’t perform

The term lead gen is super vague. I have some questions:

Are you talking about lead aggregators? Did you specify what kind of leads you were looking for? Are they just sending you lists with aged data? Are they real time leads (live call transfers, recent submitted web forms, web visits, etc)?

You need to ask these things to a lead aggregator/provider beforehand.

What is your business? Are you selling B2B products or B2C? If it's B2C, it's much easier to set the parameters for what types of leads and you can negotiate how you want to pay for the leads with more leverage.

Lol I had the exact same experience with Madison Logic. We saw the leads come pouring in from top accounts and thought we really did something. Then I started seeing a handful from an account that I knew for a fact just expanded their relationship with our competitor to the tune of 10s of millions and they had a good relationship.

I can't tell if they're running some stunt or are just outright fabricating leads but if I was a guy getting cold called because you told some company I was interested in something I'd never heard of, I'd be pretty pissed.

I’ve used two. One of them was forced on me by marketing and resulted in one decent lead after about a million dollars of spend.
The other was 511 out of Redding, CA and was actually really good.
