Leaving deals on the table for a new role?

Looking for some advice from the community.

Engaging a few other companies for new roles, however I am doing decently well in my current role with a handful of late stage opportunities and some decent pipeline.

(why are you leaving you might ask? Company culture is changing, I'm one of the dinosaurs left who's under valued, under paid amoung some other company frustrations.)

Given that the deal's I'm working, have been in the making for 6+ months it's tough to stomach walking away from all the time and money they're worth.

Has anyone tried to negotiate a signing bonus or some other way to compensate yourself for the deals youd be leaving on the table to go to a new company?

Any company that is going to offer you a role will be willing to listen to a counter negotiation from you on salary. Show the numbers of what you’re leaving behind and ask for a first year salary bump or upfront payment to compensate. If you don’t ask they’ll never offer.

Thanks for this I didn't expect this existed.

No problem. If you don’t ask they’ll never offer. It may come in the form of some sorts of draw or commission advance that goes away after a year, but it’s worthwhile to explore.

If you close deals and resign, will they still pay you the commission owed?

That is a good question...in my case they do but you get them later and they might forget about you

Hey
I'm somewhat in a similar situation right now. I spoke to my hiring managers about this, showed them my payslips to show how well i'm doing.
I was able to negotiate a signing bonus which is about 25% of what i would make if i stay here.
Am I leaving money on the table? Obviously. But I'm alright with that because of the reasons I wanna go to the new place.

The other thing is that I'm focussing on my low hanging fruits now at my current role, trying to get as much as I can in before I leave.

The other recommendation I have is that you can share a longer notice period with the new employers, or ask for a delayed start date. This would allow you some more time to get those deals closed.

In the end, do think about the reasons you want to leave. You'll always have deals coming in and there will always be money that you leave on the table.

It’s sales baby! Surely the job you are leaving for has higher pay / bigger opportunities?

point is if you are good at your job you will always have deals on the table.

Find a role that’s worth making the financial jump for.

In this wonderful game of sales, you just have to move on...

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Unfortunately we all have left money on the table. I've had a company pay me before to offset some of the pain. I'd say you have a 50/50 shot of being able to work something out.

You can try to negotiate some kind of commission payout in exchange for a longer transfer period with the old employer, it will depend on your regular commission plan as well as local laws regarding earned commission/payment history. Generally, a good company, even one not run that well, will not want an ex-employee complaining about unpaid earnings.

I left a lot of deals on the table when I left my last job, but part of the reason I left was my extremely low confidence in them going through due to mismanagement at the top level. I got a guaranteed income in the 1st year from my new employer that gave me some runway while I learned the ropes and since I closed my first large deal at the new place I have not looked back.
