LI Drama

would love the communities opinion on this.

a) is the tactic used in the cold email she posts actually 'dirty' and how often is it used?
b) your feelings on an email being posted and shit on in a public setting?

my opinion- I can't say or not whether the content is appropriate for a cold email as I don't do much cold outreach, but the idea of publicly posting (even if the name is blacked out) an email you have recieved to complain about it and drive up your own engagement and personal brand is a load of horseshit.  but that's just me.

I’m not seeing what’s wrong with the email. If she wants to complain because someone she connected with immediately sent a solicitation, I get it that the timing is a bit unnerving.

But - she’s in marketing. How is she recommending someone connect? Do leads just magically appear from the Lead Fairy?

Exactly. I’m sure the very company she works for is using similar tactics.

I just looked her up, and this is her reply to someone saying that the salesperson used a good trigger, but the email is not written properly. She's the classic marketer that thinks she provides value and is above sales lmao

So it’s the speed of how quickly she got a pitch rather than the content itself?

She complains about more than one thing. I’m not sure how she thinks their own sales team operates.

I'd say both. The speed, and the content despite a decent opening just shifts toward features. Without say poking the customer with an existing industry pain or concern.

But still, it's not overly familiar or unprofessional. The public shaming is out of proportion to the message.

Now that I can agree with.

Message was definitely lacking. However, in general you want AEs and SDRs doing outside the box type of prospecting to find good leads. Someone posts something on LinkedIn that's relevant to what your org helps with or does, it's a great way to connect and make your outreach resonate with them.

Thing is, some people don't like it, and just assume that cold outreach is a scam or some kind of slimy tactic that companies shouldn't use, and that everyone should just sit back and wait for those "warm" marketing leads to come in.

So Diana sucks and likes to complain about meaningless BS, I imagine she is getting shredded in the comments. no one asks to be reached out to you dumb ass. It's our job and without us you don't have a job.

Not just you- maybe she could have some class and stop trying to prop herself up with a post like this.

It’s a message to everyone that engaged in any way with a post. Fake personalised. The idea seems smart but most non-sales people find it weird.

I guess the question is, is that appropriate? Used often? ‘Dirty’ as she puts it?

Would you do it differently?

The tactic and strategy are poor but certainly not dirty. At the same time no one’s forcing you to accept unsolicited LI requests.

I think most in the WR know better than to use that playbook.

As for the post, it’s just another marketer being dramatic 😉

Yea, shitty attempt with a copy that was clearly AI generated and not proofed.

Not at all offensive, though.

Also, doubling down on getting her email or number? ZoomInfo is a hell of a drug. I truly don’t understand someone that works in any proximity to an outbound motion being offended by the tools that enable it.

Now..had this soldier ignored an opt-out or something this would be a different story.

1) Me liking a post does not constitute you reaching out to me...and if you do...make it brief and ask a question that qualifies if you should hit me with a pitch.
2) She redacted the personal info, so I think it's fair game. Rub my nose in my accident and I probably won't make it again.

Yeah I have no problem with her having an issue with the email or tactic, her opinion and I respect that.

but to post it and smear it across LI? That’s where I draw the line. I get she redacted the email but someone will recognize it.

Just a shit way to earn clout and increase personal brand awareness, which she clearly did with 800 + comments.

But like you said, maybe it will change that persons outbound strategy for the better.

I started this post a little differently regarding a stick being somewhere, but decided to edit it to be more family friendly.

She sounds like the worst person to interact with, and probably yells at Starbucks employees. I hope she sends a another note talking about how much she loved her team and is ready for a new role #opentowork. Because this should rub everyone the wrong way.

ok SO glad you posted this. I also saw this since im a HUGE fan of chris walker.

I dont see ANYTHING wrong with this type of outreach.

Chris also commented saying hes not a fan of this. But nowhere in this message did the sales person mention that Chris thinks they are legit or endorses them.

this is a simple "hey i saw you like this thing, or product helps that thing. interested?"

i think thats called personalization.

Right, exactly my thought like at least this is personalized... What does she want as personalization??

I think the second paragraph is not good because we don't care that you also follow Chris, like get to the point but other than that this a good personalization. As you said, this is a simple "Hey saw you liked this. We are doing a similar thing that can help you. Interested?"

I think the person knows posting on LinkedIn and shitting on a sales person does numbers and helps you get a “following”.

As long as they don’t dox fair game, at least for me

No idea. I just downloaded it the other day and watched the demo.

Haven't played around with it yet but the demo had a similar format if I'm not mistaken.

In all honesty, that's a relatively good cold email. Not a fan of the "exclusivity" and "great fit" parts but not terrible and a weird one to put on blast.

#stopthis What a croc.

I read this and I was amazed at how many responses she copped.

The cold-outreach email wasn't bad IMO. No issues there. She just didn't like being contacted and decided to demean the art of it. She missed the main point however.

If I had to reach out and cold call, it means that my marketing team are not doing their jobs. Marketing is supposed to create demand and sales then satisfies the demand?

Perhaps a refresher on the 4Ps (or 7Ps) of marketing could assist her.

It was just so weird to have a marketer criticise the sales approach like that when I feel that her criticism should've been aimed at the marketing team.

Then again, she could've been (dare I say it) nice or professional and politely decline the approach.

Kudos to Sahil's response to her.

Diana didnt bother giving the sales person a 'human answer' - she posted publically - she made it all about HER, not having any empathy for the PERSON who spent the time, effort and doing there job responsibilities. If she had any decency, she would share the feedback w/ the person, not in a public forum. She wanted attention, that is all.
