Hey Fellas,

What LinkedIn Messages for the initial connection request do you send out?

I just leave my blank TBH, I've found most cold connection requests to be pretty lame/fake anyway.

I second this. I did a bit of an A/B test on this and figured no notes was better than any lame note , anyway.

I don't think I have added a message when connecting with someone outside of maybe people I connect with from the before time.(people I knew before LI)

I'd be happy to weigh in on this except I'm not a fan of using connection requests as part of a prospecting motion. Start off with commenting or liking some of their posts, checking to see if you have any common connections and getting in front of them that way. If you really want to reach out blindly, I suggest using an InMail (which you'd get with a paid Linkedin account of any kind but I highly recommend Linkedin Sales Navigator). In your InMail, the subject line should be hyper-personalized and should match your opening sentence. Then usually, it's why I'm reaching out, data point/market research and then call to action. Happy hunting!

I realized I spent a lot of time personalizing and wasn't getting many replies. Leaving it blank then messaging later tends to work better for me.

Nothing. That works best for me. Unless I have enough to personalize the note. Otherwise, it mostly comes across as pretentious and/or fake and folks see right through it.

Write a personalized message in a connection request. This works the best for me personally.

A) Start by following the prospect on LI. Learn what interests the prospect. Make an intelligent comment on a few of their posts. The prospect begins to take notice.
B) Then, reach out on Linkedin Messaging. Start with politeness
C) Succinctly, show how you found them. Research, PR, launch video. Compliment them on the launch, career progression, success.
D) State your purpose.
E) Charm them with your all-star LI profile - pic, articles, posts.

These will increase the attractiveness for the prospect to see value in connecting with you.
