LinkedIn SPAM aka Recruiters ๐Ÿ“ฌ

It's that time of year. Recruiters come out of hibernation and start blowing up your InMail like Pearl Harbor.

I've had recruiters saying "ZoMg! YoU'rE a PeRfEcT FiT" to then get to the interview with the SVP of Sales being told "I'm looking for someone with 5 years minimum closing experience" which we all knew I didn't have coming into this.

Do they enjoy wasting our time? Are Sales Managers making up a mold of rep in their heads that ultimately doesn't exist? Are recruiters like Aaron Rodgers and I am the Hail Mary? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Recruiters like this are the worst. Most of these have premium subscriptions to LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, Indeed, etc. to send unlimited or a very high number of messages and just search a couple of buzz words required for their role, and go through the list with blanket messages without even reading the resumes/profiles. It's this type of "recruiting" that gets recruiters a bad rep. It's also lazy, inefficient, and expensive.ย

I find it counterintuitive.

I view this type of recruiting as spam, no better than the emails you receive in regards to free cruises, male enhancement pills, and Nigerian princesses that need your help.

All of this paired with the fact that half of the recruiters out there are fresh out of college and don't know shit about what they're actually looking for.

I think they are going for the spray and pray and hope something sticks. I get so many ill-fitting offers it makes me wonder if they even know what they are looking for.

Ha, just went through that. Recruiter brought me in for an enterprise role, met the team, and then the VP ultimately decided they wanted 10 more years of experience than I had. For context - I currently sell to the accounts (and the same target personas) in the potential patch.

I think either the recruiter pulling me in was the equivalent of SDRs sending blind calendar invites last day of the quarter, or their sales leadership has a very specific mold they want.

They are pretty bad right now. I connected with one and thet have sent me 4 different emails trying to sell their coaching service to me.ย

I respect the hustle man but I'm out.ย

Just recruiters (like sellers) are targeted based on their recruitment pipeline, and itโ€™s very much a โ€œquantity over qualityโ€ game (according to those I know in the space.)ย

I always try to respond politely. Never know when you might need to ask them for a job

I worked for careerbuilder a little while and I happened to have tons of conversations with recruiters. Most of them know they're doing it wrong, but they continue anyway. Quantity over quality.ย

Somewhat relatable to cold outreaches we do in sales too, but more of a spray and pray.ย

Recruiter szn. I am also seeing a massive uptick in financial advisors sliding into my DMs.ย

I don't know what metrics recruiters are held to but I would imagine one of them is "# of eligible candidates per role"ย
