Long Interview, Good thing or bad?

So... I had my first interview for a sales director position on monday. 30 minutes was scheduled, it lasted an hour and then was scheduled to continue for an hour today. Today's interview (#2) lasted 90 minutes and is now scheduled for another hour tomorrow... all with the same person.

I feel like it is going really well and it is a position that I have all the skills and qualifications for... The VP of sales and I seem to have a lot of common goals and similar management style. I guess I just need some reassurance from fellow sales people and managers alike that this is all a good thing.

Man thats good news, congrats for graduating ahead.

I never proportionate time to the success rate. But if you are having a great chat that both are happy about, you're good man.

Depends. What type of questions were you asked?

I think context really matters, if you feel like they are just grilling you then I would be worried because they are not confident you have the skills needed.

Now that we have the negative out of the way, it sounds like youre pretty aware and that the convos are going well, so I would take it as a good thing.

How much of your plans have you been asked to share, in painful detail. E.g., how would you implement X process, or how would you do this or that?

Make sure they aren't getting your detailed roadmap before you even have the job.

Going over means they like you. It’s the first indication that you’re a short lister.

Aren't they all too long? Just kidding but I am still suffering from PTSD with my new gig. Seven interviews for me to land it and I was ready to hang myself from the shower rod near the end. I do think that a long interview means you are ticking boxes and headed in the right direction, so good for you.

Good thing, consider each person involved in the interview has an hourly rate of pay/ cost to the company for being there, interviewing you, this is showing you the company is already investing money/resources into you

If the VP wasn't interested they wouldn't keep booking time. I imagine their calendar is busy and they want to make this hire so they can concentrate on more important matters such as forecasting and asking you what your team is forecasting...(couldn't help myself at the end there)

Longer the better - of course that depends if they are the ones interested!

I always think that interviews that go over the scheduled time are always a good sign. Great news! The way I see it, the interviewer values you more than their time.

I've always found that longer interviews mean that they are engaged and like you. They want to learn more, see how you think, etc. If they didn't really care, they would have ended it early and asked basic softball questions.

Got the offer today!  10 interviews and 2 tests for VP of sales position.  Guess the long interview was a great leading indicator
