Looking for a new role

I recently ended my tenure at a SaaS company, and been on the hunt for a new sales opportunity in the tech space. Figured this would be a great time to join in on the conversation here as things are picking up. If anyone has any good suggestions on where to look, or want to share their 30 second pitch on why your company for a referral bonus, let me know. #SADNESS

Networking is everything.  This is a great forum, but the anonymity part might limit your results.  I landed my current gig by searching key words in LinkedIn to see who came up, while I was still at my old job.  Found someone in a different city with a similar background as me but much more senior.  Shot him an email, which led to him connecting me with some folks here, which led to them reaching out when a job opened up, to me getting hired.  It all started by putting myself out there, not asking for a job or other contacts, but instead just saying "hey I see you and I come from a similar place and you've been really successful.  Would you mind if I got 30 minutes with you to hear about your experiences?"

Thank you! What kinds of key words were you looking for during your search?

Well at the time, I was working for Citi, so I searched Citi, my college name, Marine Corps since I served, and see who popped up.  Then when I found another Citi employee I sent him an email to connect in addition to LinkedIn.  If you can find their email on LinkedIn or Navigator, I'd do that instead of just LI messaging them

I see you're also early in your career. Make sure you choose an organization that actually has a career track and good coaching / leadership.
It's the most valuable thing to look for, not the compensation plan.

Yes that's definitely been a focus going forward.  It's been a general theme I've been noticing.  During the interview process, what are some ways to test leadership from the other side of the desk?

Second this. Make sure there is a real path to move up and not just a metaphorical one. Ask how many commercial reps have become enterprise reps

I would recommend leveraging some third party resources (think Glassdoor) to look for good company fits.

https://www.repvue.com/ is actually super reliable for salaries, ote, quota attainment probabilities, etc.

Hey thanks so much. I actually just read one of their article this morning. Ryan and his team are doing a great job.

You're in a great spot in Austin. Lots of inside sales opportunities there. In the past - I've had success using the Forbes Cloud 100 list as a starting point to dive into what emerging pre-IPO companies are out there.

One thing you'll want to consider is what type of company you want to work for. There will be a huge difference in terms of culture and structure between early and late stage startups or public companies.
