Looking to make a move- not sure where to go

I currently work for a high growth SaaS company and it has the most toxic culture I've ever seen. I have been there a year, and they have the most stringent PIP policy ever and it's soul crushing. people who went on presidents club year are also simultaneously on PIPs - not sure how that makes any sense. I'm not on a PIP right now. I had a really strong Q4/Q1 but this quarter, despite filling the pipeline with a ton of new opportunities, so many companies stopped caring about this tool (I don't blame them) and are doing layoffs, freezing budgets etc. I've gotten to a point where I can no longer justify the amount of anxiety and stress I feel daily. I want to leave my company and maybe even leave sales in general, but I have no idea which companies are ACTUALLY good to work for. i no longer trust Glassdoor (my company deletes all negative reviews). if anyone has recommendations or feedback, I am all ears

Got out of a toxic work environment, rediscovered my love of sales as a career.

Bad work environments can sour any career.

If you find a promising company, reach out to past/current employees on LI and see if you can get some frank appraisals of the culture.

Exactly this. I was miserable. Amazing what a new company or even a new manager can do for your health.

100% agree. RepVue and LinkedIn are great places to start. I’d still use GladsDoor frankly, but take everything with a grain of salt. Always.

If it's toxic, get out IMMEDIATELY.

They can impact your performance and mental health severely. I'm speaking from experience here.

Yes, I’m already looking. It’s a lot worse than I thought after speaking with others about it. Appreciate your advice!

Happy to share. It's never worth it.

Worst part is the toxic spots I was at weren't even making me much money! Granted, part of that was the toll it took on my but much of it was also the result of a straight up dysfunctional organization.

Unfortunately, what you're looking for in a company is the easiest thing for a company to lie about. Culture.

Every recruiter, every hiring manager, every HR rep, every job posting, is going to boast a great company culture.

The best thing you can do is look for companies that meet all of your other standards and then start talking to ex-employees about the culture there. Find them on LI and be straight up about why you want to talk to them.

Ex-employees are the best ones to talk to about company culture. If it sucks, anyone you talk to will jump at the opportunity to tell you why. If it was great, then they likely left on good terms and could even serve as some kind of stepping stone for you to get in front of a hiring manager.

Culture aside, if they’re putting P-Club reps on a PIP, that company has more problems than you know.

Know your worth too. Don’t stick around somewhere with a shitty culture.

The ONLY recruiters I have worked with that actually vetted the culture of the companies they place candidates in is It's Destiny Recruiting. Not even Aspireship or TrainYo vet employers like they do. I HIGHLY recommend reaching out to them as they are true champions of sales candidates

Bazaarvoice!  Amazing place to work, incredible culture, attainable quotas, killer ELT, and just good people.  Nothing is perfect but it's been the best career choice I've ever made.  https://www.bazaarvoice.com/company/careers/

ya you need to bounce for sure. if you get put on a pip and get fired do they give you severance?

The most toxic company I worked for had monthly quotas and if you missed 1 you were on a watch list, if you missed 2 i n a row you were on a PIP, in month 3 if you missed you were fired and they paid out your PTO and gave you 2-3 weeks pay.

I would use repvue over Glassdoor at this point. start reaching out to ppl on linked in and ask about their experience

It's called whip your race horses and pet your ponies. They know they can get double or triple the productivity out of a producer. But the average rep is their bread and butter consistent producer. Not always at quota but always consistent at a number or in a clutch time. Also, a company like yours will do the divide and conquer. As soon as you meet quota, they will divide your territory in two and double your quota.

nokoolaid, I hear you! The worst place I ever worked had an amazing Glassdoor rating. that sight has become complete garbage. I am pretty sure the companies can purchase some type of reputation management offering. The best way to find a decent place is ask friends and old co workers. Your network will always be the best path, otherwise you are going in blind. Repvue is an option but I have a feeling it has already been compromised like Glassdoor.

Get OUT immediately - no job is worth crushing your soul and happiness. Glassdoor is bullshit, HR people choose happy people to write reviews and bump it up. My advice is find someone you actually know who works at a company they actually like, it’s like dating - you rather go on Tinder and swipe right on a stranger based on their *glowing* profile that could be fake, or get introduced to a nice guy/gal through a mutual friend.

And if you want to try a new company with no one you know, go ask a current employee directly about how they like working there.

Good luck, and get the heck out.

I’m looking to work for a company with steady growth, attainable quotas, low turnover, and good leadership. It can be a large/public company or a smaller one. Just looking to be somewhere people are valued and not seen as a number exclusively

That sounds soul-crushing. I'd start at Repvue and also asking around to AEs at other companies on linkedin

It is 😅 repvue is definitely a good starting point but it’s hard for me to trust it because it’s how I ended up at my current company (which has stellar repvue reviews but if you look at turnover/talk to reps, many MANY would tell you to run for the hills (myself included). Do you know of any companies where you’ve heard of a positive sales culture? Would love to start networking

Back channel reps who have left. Find the ones that left in 9 months or less (if any) you get peoples bad experience. Then find one or two that were there 1+ years and see their experience.

You have to piece it together. If it’s an org that’s if any substantial size, you should prospect and outreach like you would a target.

@nokoolaid I feel you. My advice would be... get out asap loook for something else. Then think about what is more important to you... challenge of a new startup or growing with an established company/structure..... Maybe a full switch of career but if you are good at sales then this is the way to go !

Get a new job as quickly as you can!

I am 99% sure what company you are talking about.. I used to work there. I did not truly realize how bad it was until I left.

Kinda like how your friends tell you how crazy your girlfriend/boyfriend is but you are so close to it you do not realize until you break up.

I left, got another AE job similar vertical, smaller company that is employee centric and loving it.
