Losing the rush.

Since I came back to my company things have been awesome. This is the most successful I've been in my entire career and running on 3 consecutive months with mid 5 figure commissions. This month may even end up being a 6 figure month.

Been closing deals left and right.

Hit my stride like a MF and it's been gravy. Love the company, work life balance is pretty good and I feel like this is the life. I've already surpassed my OTE.

But I no longer feel that rush when I close a deal. Don't get me wrong, it's cool and winning feels good. But before, closing a deal provided a physical rush, almost a euphoric high. Now, it's still great to close a deal but the rush is gone.

Anyone experienced this? Is this just a new normal?

I'm not really complaining because things are great, but I do miss that phyisical heart pounding exhileration of closing something.

Maybe I just need an adrenaline spiking hobby.

Do you feel a physical high when you close a deal?

I feel nothing until I get signatures back and the deal totally implemented. I like to think I'm cautious.

Still feels good.

Maybe not quite the same - perhaps an element of chasing the dragon...

Definitely feeling the chasing the dragon side of things. The more I close the more it takes to get that feeling

it feels better at first bc it's new, then you get used to it. I'd say go for bigger deals, get a 7 figure commission check lol. Or try downhill longboarding or racing cars or hiking dangerous mountains. seems to do the trick for me

Yeah that would probably do it but I like money more than that feeling

haha yeh it was more of a shitstirring reply tbh rather than serious. you just got to chase the bigger ones. From my own experience, I think it comes to the point where you enjoy more the feeling of being a badass amongst your colleagues and peers and they start to look to you as a source of inspiration or knowledge cos you are killing it, more than the feeling a win gives you.

Haha yeah the truth is it's all about the big deals now. There was a time in my career where 50k was monstrous but it's become pennies. I don't really get excited for anything under 500k anymore.

haha ok, i shant shit the stir anymore.

i know the feeling, i changed jobs about a year ago and deal size is much smaller to what i was used to, its a rough learning curve.

Yeah I don't know if I'll ever leave my current company to be honest. It's been a real gravy train. It would likely take a minimum 200k base offer to get me to even do an interview

Depends on the deal. Sometimes it's just a sense of relief that it's finally over.

I used to feel it on every single deal. The longer I've been in sales the more it takes for me to get that "high". If its a deal that falls in line with our ACV, unless I'm way over my number, I'm pretty numb to it at this point.

The few exceptions to that would be if it was a really tough close or I truly believe us being in place in this account is going to be life changing for the customer

On the one hand, itโ€™s literally my job to close.
But on the other hand, I like being good at my jobโ€”feels good to know Iโ€™m doing good.

Funny thing is, it's exactly like that. Was one of the things I liked about sales in the beginning. I don't live that party life anymore but closing a deal felt pretty damn close in the beginning.

hahah yeah. I mean it is natural though. like as humans we get comfortable with things that happen over and over.

thats why ppl say "you need to love the process" which i hate btw. BUT

its true.

if you can find joy in the process of getting to close won you will find more enjoyment for sure/

Oh yeah for sure, if I didn't enjoy the process of what I do, the rush of a win wouldn't be enough to keep at it. You could say I'm a bit masocistick.

It just hit me that it's not the same anymore when I felt indifferent towards a 50k close when there was a time when I would have been over the moon.

That quick dump of endorphins when hitting those first few sales right out of college and deciding sales was for me was was great and still chasing that high again almost 11 years later. Different industries than when I first started and that endorphin high has dulled but still get it back from time to time when a sale I have been working my ass off for comes through.

we sales people tend to be dopamine junkies, but we gotta find something deeper and longer lasting than the dopamine of a closed deal!
