Lurkers...why?

Serious question.

I see lots of people here on the platform that lurk. They don't post, they don't comment, but they love to upvote/downvote folks or participate in the pinned posts/Creme de la Corps.

Get you backs off the wall and join us. We want all of you to share your thoughts, questions, opinions, ideas, bullshit hanky panky garbage...who cares. JUST COME PLAY.

Not really. We’re just closers.

But in all seriousness, maybe it would be a good thing to stand up to people in an anonymous forum who have very strong, dominant opinions so you can do it at work? Every CEO I’ve closed is a fucking bear - but if you don’t blink at the roar then you win all the things.

Just saying.

This is the comment that keeps people away.

"You're meanies"

"No, it's you who is the problem" <-- then the brigade comes saying yeah, it's the lurkers who are wrong.

Should be here uplifting folks, not saying they're the problem. Maybe stop bouncing on each others laps for five minutes and think about that. 😘

I'm having an off day.

I wonder the same thing...most of the top posts end up being from the same 10-20 people week after week and I'm sure ya'll have something to offer be it advice, an insightful topic to discuss, or humor?

Could be they fear being wrong? And by wrong I mean their thoughts or opinions not with the mainstream of sales.
That or they don't feel they have anything to contribute.

I’m so not mainstream. Hell, I’m a self proclaimed tech idiot and corporate noob. Still give no fucks. Also, everyone has something to contribute. Absolutely no one cares about what I sell. Except that one guy. But anyway, everyone has at least one thing that is awesome/interesting/noteworthy. I wanna hear about it.

The gatekeeping here is a big factor. Tons of people joined, tried their first post and were shamed, ridiculed, downvoted to the depths of marketing.

It's funny. But my first post was destroyed, I didn't want to give this place a chance, but I stuck around. Great advice. Good sounding board.
Then "debate" topics popped up... Which were just "downvoted if you disagree" with a popular leaderboard person.

Come out, come out wherever you are! So many people in the shadows. That's a big reason that engagement is lacking. I'm wondering if half of them are even in sales?

Just joined WR recently. First week I just watched to checkout how much was talking business vs BS. Once I figured out the general tone - I've now gotten active.

Not sure how sustainable it is to respond to multiple posts per day/week.

My guess is I stay active for a week or 3, then end up lurking once a month or so to checkout interesting topics

Does it matter if they're finding value that way? The point of the platform from their perspective might be different than ours.

I would agree that there is definitely a large portion (maybe myself included) that isn’t as active as they (or we) should be. That being said I think there is a portion of the community that is very aggressive and this aggressive portion of the community claims that being mean and belittling people is “savage”. Savages help their community better themselves. I think not only the active portion of the community but the inactive should reflect on why that is.

I enjoy posting, don’t care much who thinks what, if one person takes one thing from some of my knowledge and opinions it’s a win for me. I enjoy the anonymous part of things as well, as I can be me, without being a public representative of my brand 100% of the time.

I thought so too... Then the "I disagree button" comes out vs this comment/post doesn't add value to the discussion. Which is the true spirit of the up/down votes.

It's a growing community, I get it, growing pains - forming storming norming all that jazz. Can't wait for it to thrive.

I used to be very active. Then the cool kid brigade poured on the downvotes, gatekeeping, echo chamber of "stop posting reposts, but upvote me complaining about reposts" and various other comment farm activity.

Once it gets better, I'll be back and more active.

Until then, lurker 💯

When you see user names only in your activity feed, but never in the feed as comments or posts, then you can be assured they are lurkers.

What's the point of lurking in an anonymous community? Speak your mind. Now's your chance.

If you don't agree with the herd, but you add thoughtful answers... Downvotes. (loss of commission). So it's safer to button up and let the popular kids amplify their own posts and polls, non contribution answers etc.

Being anonymous helped convince me to post A LOT on this platform. I've posted plenty of stupid shit and I like to think I've posted some helpful stuff as well. Overall, it's a double-edged sword because when you're anonymous there is less accountability, but at the same time, it allows you to ask questions and/or vent without having to worry about your employer knowing about it. So I completely agree with P.B.C. Lukrers start posting/commenting/ and engaging more. 99% of us are anonymous on here anyway so if someone disagrees who cares. Worst-case scenario you get downvoted a bunch and if that's the case there is probably a lesson to take away because if you post something useful or hilarious you will get upvoted a bunch.

Idk to be honest, I see a lot of different people posting during the day and yet when it comes to the leader board I hardly ever organically see their posts. Is it an algorithm thing? I post often enough, try to comment on different posts all the time. Not active ALL DAY and checking and all that, anyway that's my experience.
