Main differences between B2B and B2C

I used to do a lot of B2C sales work before my B2B career.

We never used the terms prospect, personas, icp, relevance, use cases, case studied, etc.

Why are these 2 so different if in the end it's all about a context full and mutually beneficial conversation?

Because selling a personal product to an individual is extremely different from selling a business product to a business?

How so? I've sold programming to individuals and there are also B2B plans for companies, I see the process of multiple individuals and hierarchy as a variable but a business is still a unit, with shared beliefs and path forward, just as an individual.

I can see it as plainly as a product set to benefit or bother many as opposite to a product that may benefit or discomfort just an individual.

It's as simple as seeing it from the individual to the collective point of view.

TBH...I've done both B2C AND B2B and haven't ever used any of those terms...EVER. I try to communicate like a human. All that other stuff is jargon. Keep it simple.

B2B is basically eCommerce, whereas B2C eCommerce refers to the process of selling to individual customers directly. This difference should impact your approach!

How have you found the variance in the approach? Something tells me they should not be so diff.

The "pitch" even when you turn it into a conversation, you are talking to different people, one is an end user the other is an employee and they will persevere the call differently. One is targeted at them the other at their title.

Really? At their title or at the problems they try to solve and the "person" they play when trying to fix those problems. The conversation should be about how with what we have done you can now make faster progress towards solving the "problem they solve" aka their job. On B2C I think its almost the same, if I'm selling you say probiotics haha, Id have to understand what kind of a person you are when trying to solve the "problem" of your "gut health" for example.

Sales is all about taking an organization or person from where they are to where they need to be.  Pretty straight forward.

I've never done B2C, is it as hard and excruciating as they say it is? Surely a cold call to a public person is 100% more difficult then a business?

Most of my sales career has been B2C. It’s the same in the sense that you’re solving a problem/providing a solution for your prospect. IMO, it’s different when you’re selling to a consumer because you’re not dealing with nearly as many stakeholders. Sure, you’ll run into the classic “gotta run it by the spouse” objection, but at the end of the day, it’s the same smell/different nostril. If you can get them to see the value in your product/service, your job is to get them to sign on the line that is dotted (or DocuSign, because it’s 2021).
