Hey Savages,
Just wanted to share this real quick to wrap it up today. I sell to marketers and cold called a marketing director today.
First, I referenced a new acquisition their company is planning and she proceeded to correct me saying that they are not expanding into a new industry since they are already in that industry. I checked the damn recording after and I said "Expanding your footprint into the healthcare space by acquiring..."
However, I wasn't gonna start a discussion about what I said/not said, so, I simply clarified/restated my point and kept the conversation going.
I went with "a lot of marketers are preparing for 2023 and blah, blah, blah, are you focusing on similar priorities or working on something else right now?"
She didn't answer and instead proceeded to tell me that "This is not the way to get in touch with marketers, it comes off as spammy and im not even the right contact."
I then basically said "Cool, who's the right person to get in contact?"
She told me that she didn't know and that instead of cold calling I should be attending events and "keeping it more organic and allow things to flow"
Hahaha are you kidding me? I wanted to tell her that her company has thousands of people doing the exact same thing I'm doing, and that they are the reason she has a job and the reason their company make hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.
However, I kept it professional as the polite gentleman I am, wished her an amazing day and hung up.
I just find it hilarious that some marketers and people in general think B2B businesses could thrive by sitting on their asses waiting for customers to come through the door with a bag full of cash because they read your fucking blog post. Especially in this economy.
Anyone had similar experiences either with marketing or other department?
