Meaningful Metrics for BDRs

What do you consider meaningful metrics for a BDR team? Do you have hard metrics they have to meet or do you back off and let them do their own thing if they are hitting quota?

My team has call and email metrics we have to meet daily but they are more of a guide for those to maintain a pipeline. If your constantly hitting quota we more or less can do our own thing. The metrics are mainly to show our leadership team that were actually working during the day.ย 

The metrics are around 60 dials a day and 40 emails (mix of personalized and automated).ย
