Mentally preparing for new job...?

I've been in my current role for 5 years and have become pessimistic, disgruntled, and disillusioned. I'm planning to start at a new company in August.

Any advice or for how to reset and recharge?

I have a week of vacation scheduled to un-plug and clear my head. What else has worked for you savages to get your groove back when starting a new gig?

Set goals for yourself! Set a 12 month, 3 month, 1 month, 1 week goal before you go into the job. Then for the first month set yourself daily goals. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but when you've been doing the same bullshit for 5 years, you can get caught up in routine and having distinct goals can help you break from that.

I really like this suggestion. I've been reading "The First 90 Days" and like the idea of getting more detailed about daily goals.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Detox during that week. Don't think about work.

Then think about what made you successful in the last role and focus on how to apply those things to the new role.

Great mindset! I'm looking forward to traveling without my laptop for the first time in a long time.

Have 1 thing in mind that you’re going to excel at in this new role that you didn’t do well in your last and execute it! Very rewarding. I used to suck at CRM Hygiene. I made it my mission in this job to just be better at it. Very rewarding and my manager doesn’t do my
head in anymore 🤣

I would defy take more than a week off if you can. Typically it takes a week (for me at least), to turn the brain off and slow down.
Once you start the new job, go in with a beginners mindset. Try not to take your old habits, expectations with you.
Try to meet as many people from different departments as you can, learn about the company, people, culture and have fun!

It would come naturally, actually. The excitement of something new in anything will get you going in the beginning. The most important part though is to maintain that "beginner's mindset" for longer.

The daily goals, that were mentioned above, would really kick ass 2 maintain this mindset for longer (what a great suggestion, @salesnerd!)

Setting goals outside of work and focusing on those in between roles has really helped me. How much time are you going to take off between roles?

The plan is at least a week, maybe 2.
