When the sector is "right sized". I don't know how long you've been around, but bust tends to follow boom, and there was a recent hiring spree. A lot of companies optimistically overhired.

Many of the people involved will find something else - this isn't quite the horrible scenario of 2001 or even 2008-9.

I’ve never understood why they need much of a sales team anyway… I mean, I get selling ads- but also I don’t get selling ads on one of the biggest platforms ever that lets you buy it yourself and outline all the buyer persona demographics you’re targeting without a sales persons involvement… what am I missing here?!

If I'm Zuck, I make this metaverse play totally differently and maybe he tried and failed: I buy Linden Lab, the maker of Second Life.

Why I say he could have tried is their other money stream Tilia, a payment processor *with capabilities for NFTs/metaverse stuff/etc.*

The problem when the boss thinks he knows all. People were likely telling him both the users and the tech was not ready but he just barreled ahead with thinking we're all gonna be running business meetings in VR with silly avatars.

Yup. Like common guys, if I have to meet in the metaverse at least make my colleagues zombies or do something else interesting. I don't want to see Wii characters of the people I already see everyday.

Imagine a meeting on the bridge of a space ship, or while base jumping. They really missed a good opportunity.

NGL I love my quest 2. There are tons of great games, but I wouldn't bet my whole company on it.

I feel like anyone voluntarily leaving twitter now because "eLoN bAd" is in for a tough job search with the addition of 14,000 competing candidates out there.

So far, they're handling this much better than over at the Twit Storm.

Business news yesterday was fairly optimistic about most of the people let go finding new roles. This is different than what happened during the dotcom crash (RIP).

Still sad for all affected, but 4 mos severance allows for some breathing room.
