A lot of SDRs are facing stress on a daily basis, as well as, struggle with anxiety and depression. Overall, it's often perceived that good SDR needs to be goal-oriented and result driven and resilient. Sales reps are pushed to reach their targets, encouraged to do X amount of calls and build Y amount of email pitches.
However, most of the time it's forgotten that those result-oriented sales reps are just people, who get anxious about the numbers daily (even the best performing SDRs)! We push our limits further each time, trying to achieve and reach more but we forget to put our mental health first. Sadly, even till this day talking about mental illness is often seen as a sign of weakness, especially in sales, as you MUST be resilient in order to perform!
Yet very few companies choose to educate their employees about mental health illness, a set of conditions that cause more lost workdays and impairment than arthritis, asthma, back pain, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
Why? Maybe leaders believe that these conditions don’t affect companies’ bottom lines? But they do, significantly! Work-related stress is a primary cause of poor productivity, lack of concentration, human error, sickness absence, high staff turnover and poor performance in the organisation.
So how about WE push our leaders to start investing more into employees mental health? How about we rise awareness and brake the taboo? How about we care for each other and ask for help when we feel it's too much?
