metal health?

A lot of SDRs are facing stress on a daily basis, as well as, struggle with anxiety and depression. Overall, it's often perceived that good SDR needs to be goal-oriented and result driven and resilient. Sales reps are pushed to reach their targets, encouraged to do X amount of calls and build Y amount of email pitches.

However, most of the time it's forgotten that those result-oriented sales reps are just people, who get anxious about the numbers daily (even the best performing SDRs)! We push our limits further each time, trying to achieve and reach more but we forget to put our mental health first. Sadly, even till this day talking about mental illness is often seen as a sign of weakness, especially in sales, as you MUST be resilient in order to perform!

Yet very few companies choose to educate their employees about mental health illness, a set of conditions that cause more lost workdays and impairment than arthritis, asthma, back pain, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

Why?  Maybe leaders believe that these conditions don’t affect companies’ bottom lines? But they do, significantly! Work-related stress is a primary cause of poor productivity, lack of concentration, human error, sickness absence, high staff turnover and poor performance in the organisation.

So how about WE push our leaders to start investing more into employees mental health? How about we rise awareness and brake the taboo? How about we care for each other and ask for help when we feel it's too much?

Interesting post. With the pandemic, I’ve seen more companies before put effort into mental health.

where're you based? As in Eastern Europe isn't the case. Seems like nothing changed when it comes to companies' efforts 🙁

Minneapolis, MN! Hmm interesting. My previous company was head quartered in Denmark and I always was so jealous of the health benefits they would have available- physical and mental. Is it that much difference between countries there? Or potentially industries? That was a SaaS company!

I also work for SaaS company but deff Denmark is much more advanced when it comes to mental health, in comparison to other EU countries!

Our company stepped up it's game but not enough. You're right companies in general need more training and action to take care of their employees.

If you are reading this and feel anxiety,  stress, burnout, etc, this thread is a great resource:

Shout out to my company - we just had the option to opt into a 4 week meditation course. 10 minutes a day with hour long Friday sessions to learn about meditating and taking care of yourself. I wish more sales people participated but personally loved it.

Honestly not sure their policy, I am 5 weeks in. I am looking into it though as a fellow sales rep friend recently shared he is going to therapy. I already am quite self-critical by nature but the critiques of role playing amongst leaders & peers (although a very very helpful tool in measuring where I can improve) is always anxiety-ridden + the constant rejection of sales in general can make it overwhelming. When I’m soaring, it’s an incredible high but being new & a rookie to an industry is an uneasy feeling right now. Hope to change that with time!

Oh I know how you feel! Really hope your company has something to offer when it comes to mental health issues. It's defiantly challenging job for itself and extra critiques for sure adds additional weight. Regardless, keep your spirit up and don't let those rude leads get to you! 🤗

As someone who suffers with anxiety and not managing it well, I would love to hear how others with anxiety deal with it at work. Recently been experiencing it more and more with anxiety kicking in randomly during the day and I quite struggle to handle it sometimes, especially at work when I can’t just leave and got to carry on with my daily tasks and meetings

For me it helps sometimes to change scenery, shorts breaks outside, focusing on my breathing for a few mins. I also heard the 3-3-3 rule does wonders too (Look around you and name 3 things you see, then naming 3 sounds you hear, lastly, moving 3 body parts).
