Micro Managers...Good or Bad?

If a manager has been on all of your recent calls (past 2 months) and nothing has really shown for it, at what point can you tell them "hey, let me try this solo for a bit?"

Over communicate. In my experience, most micro managers just have subconscious trust issues. Everything you do, just over communicate for a bit. Once you establish that, then yeah it is definitely ok to have a conversation with them, but I would phrase it constructively. Maybe like "hey <name>, I want to try and run a few of these calls solo for practice. I can sync with you after and give you a full debrief, but would like to run a few on my own"

If they continue to push back, they may just not be a good manager, some people just are not good leaders. Keep doing your own thing and in your next role whenever that may be, you now know what to avoid in a boss.ย

I hate micro-managers, but I love being coached so it's all about finding that balance

Bad if they're not willing to coach you

If it's been 2 months I'd ask him now. What's the reason yo don't want them on the call?

So are they just sitting on your calls? Or are they providing helpful feedback and coaching on the calls each week?

If they aren't coaching you, ask them to coach you.

If they are coaching you and providing feedback on making changes and progress isn't being made on your end then coaching / training may need to be adjusted.

But listening to calls / being on calls isn't micro managing in my opinion if it's being done to coach and help the rep improve.

They're adding feedback and coaching, but haven't proved helpful, unfortunately. They mostly talk and say things off script.ย

I hate to say it but that leaves me to two things it could:

1) the coaching is terrible.
2) the coaching isn't being applied correctly.
