Micromanaging is insanely stupid to do. Hire smart in the first place and if you start to lose faith let the employee know you have and start the elimination process. Otherwise if you remain confident in your hire let them be. This isn’t coming from a soft mindset either of the typical whiny millennial “wahhh my boss is mean”. I love a tough boss, asking me to bring in more revenue and cursing about lost deals. Actual micromanaging though (reading emails, checking calendars, giving suggestions that weren’t fucking asked for) it is so pointless and most importantly it just doesn’t work. If the person needs the help because they suck that isn’t going to help them and if they don’t need it they’ll eventually just leave.
Micromanaging is the WORST
