Must have WFH tools/tech/appliances/things

It’s looking like I might be WFH for a long time so I’m hoping to continue to invest in some solid WFH stuff. What did you splurge on to make your life better from a home office?

Here’s mine:

  • Standing desk
  • Good desk speakers
  • Quality office chair
  • Coffee maker
  • Posture correcting tool
  • Bidet

What am I missing out on?!

Edit to add:

  • Monitor
  • Monitor arms
  • Ring light to look like a skincare influencer
  • Webcam
  • Standing mat
  • Whiteboard
  • Massage gun
  • External mic

Ha! I actually own a ring light that I bought for a photography course I took. Haven’t ever used it for a zoom meeting, but I suppose if I really want to make an impression I could.

Herman Miller chair, DSLR to use as a webcam. Yeti Pro mic, Filler lights,  KRK Rokit 5s, Powered standing desk, Technivorm Moccamaster, PS4, Additional monitor, 50" TV, more Hue bulbs, lots of alcohol for my in-office fridge, and my favorite thing, an ottoman that folds out to a bed.

The DSLR webcam is key. As id a proper mic and boom arm. And lights are probably the most important.

All great things but you also need some furry co-workers!

And probably a mini bar within reach if we're all being honest with ourselves.

ON the desk?! That’s a whole new level of commitment. My coffee is in the kitchen at least... makes it so I don’t have 12 cups a day.

My company likes to have 97 internal meetings for every 1 external meeting so I am often in back to backs all day so it is great for those situations!

Have you used a whiteboard on zoom before? I feel like it wouldn’t transfer over well, but I haven’t tried it yet. I’ve done the iPad zoom whiteboard with moderate success.

I have done the zoom whiteboard and it went well. It helped to make the conversation much more engaging.

I tried using the Webex whiteboard ,a few times, and that was a disaster.

If you're going to go the standing desk (would 10/10 recommend) - then you should add some sort of standing mat.

I would HIGHLY recommend a walking treadmill to accompany your standing desk. I find it's tough to get outside a move around sometimes during the day but this desk is silent and nondisruptive to my team meetings (I only use it for internal calls though!)

did you use it a lot? I had a hard time incorporating into my day when I was in meetings where I need to talk a lot. I found it worked well for larger meetings. How did you use yours?

Razer Kiyo is probably the best webcam I’ve found for the price - but honestly the most important piece is to have your monitors aligned at head height, seat at the right height and ergonomic keyboard/mouse.

Having a comfortable setup > Visual setup.

Nobody seems to have mentioned yoga mat and I actually do think that matters. WFH apparently is more likely to fuck up your posture because you can slouch and nobody gives a shit. Get some stretching in for sure.

This light attached to the monitor mount arms has worked really well. I would also add that the Yeti microphone and a desk mount make meetings sound way more professional.

Huge fan of my airpods, don't always use them on my calls but connecting them for watching videos or just listening to music is definitely worth it. I also have 3 water bottles so I don't have to leave the office and a Yeti coffee mug so my coffee stays hot or cold and I don't need to leave the office to refresh it.
