My boss, mentor and friend quit. What should I do?

The boss who always sung my praises to higher-ups and made sure my projects were successful is leaving, and I'm worried that his replacement won’t share his (or my) vision — or that he just won’t be as pleasant to work with.

What can I do to win him over from the beginning and have him on my side?

Keep doing what you've been doing, actions scream louder than words, show him you are a top preformer and lead the pack!

Keep it up my dood. You don't need your mentor to be working with you, you know?  Stay strong, keep getting after it!

This happened to me at my last firm. I miss her dearly.

Her replacement was regional asshole, so I was right fucked. I quit because there was no possible way I could succeed under his leadership.

However, if they’re halfway competent then just be fucking valuable. Everyone will love you if you have a good attitude and good work ethic.

Just do your job. Managers/higher ups can sniff out performers unless he/she is a total tool and if that's the case either wait them out or jump ship. Trying too hard may make them think you can't stand on your own merits. Personally when a new boss comes in or new VP (we have had a rotating door of them over the years) they need to win ME over. I am a performer and can take my performance somewhere else in a heartbeat, they need me way more.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Is the replacement internal or external? This also seems like a great opportunity to go to his boss before the new guy steps in and build a relationship there.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Best you can do is keep performing well and try to find the silver lining. See what you can learn from your new manager, and keep somewhat in touch with you old manager if you think you ever might work together again.

Keep at it. There is a reason why the guy leaving liked you. If the new one does not share the same vision, you can still fix it when that s the case. Offer to help him get up to speed in the role?
