My company put in new sales metrics

I'm an AE that just got hired in Feb and was only expecting to outbound 15-20% of the time. now I'm in the thick of it and they just dropped new outbounding metrics for us: 50 cold calls and 100 emails/Linkedin messages or invites per week. inbound leads are SLOW right now and I'm worried about commission after the ramp checks go away. Is this much outbounding normal in an AE role or should I start looking for something else?

Those metrics are layups for a week. If you’re not able to hit this then you’re more or less sitting around waiting for shit to happen and being an order taker.

I thought it was PER DAY, which wouldn't even be that bad.

Per week? And there's complaining?!

50 cold calls per week is quite low, 50 per day is closer to the standard AE role and even that can be low depending on IB flow. Emails seems about normal if a little low.

Fair enough. Appreciate the input. Just as an aside, I’ve got someone on my team who made over 100 cold calls this week and almost 700 in the last 90 days and her pipeline is empty for the quarter. This method doesn’t seem to be working and the only reason I feel like it was necessary to put these metrics in place was to guarantee everyone is at least making an effort, but that doesn’t really matter if the outreach is generic. I feel like 50 personalized cold calls is a lot, but I get it, 50 generic cold calls with a one size fits all script? Easy peasy. I did D2D for 4 years, I’m no lump.

That’s a lot in the hardware world however low on the software side. If you’re not happy keep working but look for other opportunities

That’s not really asking much. If inbound isn’t happening then that 50 should be a personal minimum. It’s your responsibility to fill your own funnel.

It’s common to outbound, particularly when the inbounds are drying up. It’s quite normal.

I’d honestly be more worried about the overall market, and I’d be paying attention to what’s happening with your products. Are they need to haves that can weather a tough market, or are they nice to haves, with a possible tough sled in a volatile economic environment?

You got to do outbound because it’s normal now a days. Honestly your per week metrics is too low; 10 calls each day is nothing. If you are an inbound person might want to look for something else but not sure if you will find inbound only role. All the best :)

I know people don't come to this forum to get beat up, but this is a rough one.

You state clearly that inbound leads are SLOW right now and you're worried about commissions, but you're worried about having to do some outbound? Like some others here, I thought you were going to say this was the daily requirement, which still wouldn't be unheard of. For a WEEKLY number of someone worried about inbound leadflow and commission, I think you need to reevaluate what sales is. This is the gig.

even if these were per day metrics, it's not that bad at all
