My wedding is next week, and my soon to be wife said I can't network during the wedding and schmooze her rich family members. What do I do?

Do I listen to my soon to be wife?

I mean...my SO and I are talking engagement and the guaranteed income of an engineer sounds nice to balance my ups and downs with commission.

As PBC said, you'll have no time to really schmooze during your wedding.

Now when you get those cards and follow up with thanks, that is your real time to shine. Make a note of each gift, joke and piece of interesting clothing worn and use it as a launch for a nice thank you/networking call after your honeymoon.

You keep your spouse happy and not make it look awkward plus you have an actual reason to reach out again.

I didn't have a second to breathe during my wedding, so I doubt you'll even have a moment to try and schmooze. My tip is to enjoy the weekend as it will go by in a flash.

Well, he *could* have the DJ set up the industry standard "network time" during the reception.  Usually falls  after the garter and bouquet toss and before the cake cutting.

I charge extra for that elevator music I have to play during this portion of the evening. I advise couples against it.

Just make sure you have plenty of business cards ready. Scattering them around with the party favors works well too.

You won't have time to truly schmooze.  It will be quick "so happy you could make it" convos and then on to the next relative/friend that you may not see again until a funeral or the next wedding.

I voted pro-network, but no deal is worth having your wife bring up how you were focused on work at the wedding.

It will be brought up every quarter for the rest of your tenure

hahahaha I'm split on this one. I'd say definitely schmooze enough to continue the conversation later. But keep it brief. It's your wedding!

Do the Anti Sell. If someone asks what you do or about your work it would be rude not too tell them and ask some leading questions!

But srsly this should be the last thing on your mind.

Tell your wife okay but we all know the SADNESS never goes away.

Listen to your future wife, def toss around some business cards like they’re Benjamins and follow up after the celebration 🍾 🥂
Her family members aren’t going anywhere.
