Need Direction where to go from here.

Ok Folks , over 50 year old with 30 years CPG sales experience, was laid off last year , had some family health issues to deal with so that put interviewing on the back burner. Have been looking since July, a few interviews that led nowhere, I am amazed how many hiring managers will do 3 rounds of interviews and then ghost you. Just finished up a 6 interview process over 3 months with one company where I finished 2nd for the role. I not sure where to go next, cash is now becoming an issue, do I switch industries , I love food sales. Get a career coach , move to South America ( not a real option )

ugh this really sucks sorry to hear it.

what problems are you coming up against when your interviewing? experience cant be one of them!

I would start looking into other industries for sure if your not getting anything right now.

I dont know the CPG space at all so i cant be of much help, but I always ask my self " what types of companies would value that I have sold products that are X amount, to X buyer in X industry"

Thanks for the reply, not really sure since feedback does not happen, it seems headhunters do not want to talk to me since I am old , have been told that more than once. I have had my CV rewritten 3 times thinking that may help. I have been told I make to much and have too much experience for the role.

there is no such thing as TOO much experiance for a role, there is another issue here. Think about it
you are a CEO hiring for a role
you want the best canidate
30 years TYPICALLY is better than less
but when it isnt, there is a reason
find out what it is

The recommendation I would make here is to look into hospitality work. Also check out instawork. Theyโ€™re hiring across the board and it could align well.

When mostly hospitality needs workers for random jobs Instawork has a network of temporary staff they can provide to staff your venue/event whatever it might be. So the role sells to the venues to use the platform. Not sure on culture or how the company is internally but I am familiar with the org because of proximity.

Though you love food sales, you need ๐Ÿ’ฐat the moment. I would be flexible to other industry that are actually hiring. You never know you might end up liking it more but if not you can always keep the search game going on in the background.

Agree 100% Diablo, just honestly not sure what industry to target that will be open to someone my age starting new in that industry.

Age is just the number if you have the right skills. I come from a CPG background but now happily working in the Software company. You will have to do some research and thin down your options.

keep pushing ahead
Additionally if you have 30 years of experiance but only 3 months of runway, when you do get a new gig I would consider cutting back on expenses significantly
be able to go 12-24 months with no job at any given time
