Hey Name,

My cousin, name, gave me your info and said I should reach out because of x, y, and z. Because of this he thought there would be some mutual interest in connecting. Would love to chat a little bit more and make a more formal intro, do you have 10-15 minutes free next week so we can talk a little more?

Keep it simple. treat it like when a client gives a referral. Remember, this guy is just another person like you or I. He's not some almighty superior being that should be intimidating to talk to.

If you don't hear back after a few days, reply to the thread and follow up with him just like you would a prospect.

Only thing else, I would add something specific about why it made sense to connect

With these types of relationships, I would have the individual that has the connection open the door for you. They are now your advocate and the other party now has more of a pull/reason to want to meet or talk with you.

If you’re cousin can’t intro you, treat like a prospect. Do your research, be a human and follow up. A sales leader would appreciate your effort

I would have your cousin send the email and CC you and have him make the intro and you just follow up. way better chance of success
